Comics Boom XD Pro sounds best to me in the lineup. Second best was Rode, 3rd was Deity and fourth was that LensGo 348 C. What were the price ranges of all of them and could you do a remake of this short but outdoors where birds are chirping? I’m looking for something that picks up those sounds while talking well.

Condensor mic with 1. low self noise 2. High sensitivity 3. Turn Gain down 4. Cardioid Polar Pattern. Can you explain the difference between 1, 2, and 3? I have my condensor mic has a gain knob which I max out, but on my pc the recording volume is set to as low as 2%. So far this seems to decrease the environment noise a lot, and then I use audacity to further Reduce Noise without affecting the Voice quality too much.

I think most professionals wouldn't say a "dynamic microphone" would be best for a voice in an untreated space. Instead, they'd probably also suggest the pickup pattern. You also leave out the ability to close-mic more easily with most common dynamic microphones, thereby organically increasing signal-to-noise, sometimes exponentially over a tube condenser, etc. Yes, there are cardioid condensers, and some are specifically designed for close-micing of voice. But the RE20 is the king of broadcast mics, hands down, because it was designed specifically to be used in limited space, and achieve condenser-like qualities. The science employed in that mastery of engineering is something any aspiring audio-person should dive into.

Is there also a camera where you don't have to turn on the camera unplug the usb camera navigate to the streaming option and select put the cable back in but one that you setup once, and you can just turn of your pc + camera, leave the usb C cable in the device and next time when you turn on your pc, it will automaticly start from this setting?

Interesting, there are black bars on the display but if you’re shooting in 16 x 9, you shouldn’t see them in the final file. If you’re still seeing them, it means you’re not shooting 16 x 9.

In this position, my shirt creates noise on the recording. Why doesn't this happen for MrBeast?
@randyrektor
@randyrektor 13 күн бұрын
This will likely be because of the type of wind screen you have attached. The ones that are best for under your shirt are the ultra fluffy ones (check Viviana Fur windscreens -or something similar) Also placing it within the valley in the middle of your chest helps!

Aesthetically speaking, looks are everything and for me, I don't like the fact you can see the cheap toggle switches when you look at the mic. They could have put them near the shock mount or at the rear of the mic out of site. Also, the windscreen looks cheap and isn't long enough for my taste.

I agree with these comments. The input with the Apple Pencil is absolutely hopeless - you have to input the notes, sharps, etc VERY accurately for it to work. It is VERY time consuming as you have to repeat entries which means erasing your existing entry and trying again. Not good at all.

I'm so confused which one I should go for my set up. The NTG 5 or the NTG 3.
@randyrektor
@randyrektor 17 күн бұрын
It's my understanding that the NTG5 is significantly lighter, although the NTG3 has significantly superior RF rejection and weather sealing (moisture resistant). It's really up to you what's valuable for your work. Hope this helps!

@randyrektor I'm actually aiming more toward the 5 due to all the accessories that come with and the quality of that 5. I watched many videos of the two. I want both but I just need one to start with.

Listening now on better speakers .... XLR sounds a little deeper, richer, less etched, but the difference is not huge. Seems like this is a pattern for XLR vs USB, and consistent with your observations about noise. Question: Have you compared PM1 to Maono PD400x? It cost double the price of the PM1, but still not a real stretch .... The Maono is getting solid reviews in the price range $110 - $160. Thank you.
@randyrektor
@randyrektor 22 күн бұрын
I think you’re totally on the money. I think with the USB option, you’re dealing with lower quality preamps and converters inside, but overall pretty reasonable for most applications! I haven’t tried the Maono, but I’ve used others from them and they are awesome for the money!

@randyrektor

Yup! I think I prefer the sound/build of this one. I found the Fifine to have terrible handling noise. Like even slightly moving my head would make the cable rattle the mic. I found it was almost unusable because of that.

The Zoom H6 has come in clutch for me. First, quick note on the H6: it actually does have a built in limiter/compressor. It is assignable per channel OR globally. Probably not as tweakable as it can be (it offers presets only that, as far as I have seen, can't be changed) with the onboard options, but, it has been enough for my needs. It has also been a lifesaver as an interface when my primary one malfunctioned. I ended up replacing my primary interface with a Zoom LiveTrak L-12 which is a 12-channel digital mixer which also functions as a 14-in-4-out interface. The L-12 can also work as a portable DAW with its built-in recorder (12 separate channels plus Master Mix) and still offer mixing of each individual track.

10:34 I'm using MIDI back and forth with forScore and Helix these days. I use buttons on the scores to change the patch on my Helix. I've also designated a Helix switch to do page turn on forScore, and another switch to start playback. Let me know if you would like an idea on how I did this.

you should’ve used a hard limiter to compensate for the difference in peaks and then did a normalization. Otherwise it’s very difficult to make a comparison because there’s just too much volume variation between them.
@randyrektor
@randyrektor 26 күн бұрын
Hard limiting then normalizing would leave large fluctuations in rms and average loudness. I matched them on short term LUFS which is a cleaner method that has less degradation on the audio.

Thanks for that video. Very helpful ! How ever, i still have a doubt. I have the same setup as you, Mac and Ipad, but once you have choose "Prefer device versions" for the Ipad and "Icloud version" for the Mac, once the files are upload to the Mac, do you leave the Ipad on the setting "Prefer device versions" ? Cause usually i do corrections, setup and a few things on the Mac that end up in the Ipad, but with that setup, i afraid the the Ipad will compare his version with the Icloud, where the Mac is synching and will ignore, or worst, will replace that work i did on the Mac. What do you think ? am i clear enough ? I had problems with that with the early version of that sync system of ForScore. Thanks in advance

You can connect mixer to a remote speaker wirelessly . Just like they do with the Sennheiser equivalent of this . Which is the sennheiser ENG G4 with two transmitter one looks like the receiver and the other one is a plug on mic transmitter . The advantage the sennheiser has though is the distance it transmits is 100 metres . So lot of DJ’s use it for remote speaker for wedding events
