just curious. I'm in the market for my first engine. There is a 1917 Fairbanks Morse Model Z 10 hp for sale close to me. . its running but needs to be restored. Ballpark. What is a motor similar to yours worth?

This is not an AR, it’s a 1937 model D.

Could the brand new rings be needing some more hours of running before the extensive exhaust smoke lessens? Your careful restoration work paid off with this engine running so very smoothly. Another great video! Looking forward to watching Part 3.

Such beautiful pieces of machinery. The work they did on them and the work that it produced was miraculous! 😲

I don't see any type of air or liquid cooling for these engines. I'm guessing they are so big and with an open crank assembly they cool themselves enough without a more a more explicit cooling system. Without obvious cooling systems they could pass as steam engines at first glance until more closely examined. It is easy to see how these engines were made to swap into where a previous steam engine had been used to drive a power assembly using wide industrial belts. I think farmers still use similar wide belts for occasionally driving stationary pumps in remote locations with a tractor belt PTO.

Great looking and running engine,I just bought one yesterday, A 1922 model Z.Mine has the exhaust coming out of the top of the head,has the original paint and otherwise unmolested,just dirty from sitting in his shop for years,Paid 500.00 for it.Also I bought A 1916 Monitor from the same guy,and my brother bought A 1921 Associated from him as well.He said the haven't been started in several years,They all started right up!

@wjbatty3 жыл бұрын
About 10 drops per minute should be enough the oil we use today is much better quality than was used on theses engines back in the day

tandem compound the old gentlemen (90 years old)that I got it from said his uncle used it saw wood on the farm. It was left abandoned on the edge of a slough for at least 65 years so I have no history of it coming out of an elevator.

I don't understand why they won't paint the tractors and make them show ready. What was " road gear" you had to start early if you wanted to get to the field.

i can see your point, but i rather like them in "working clothes"
@timgreen41375 жыл бұрын
There is more monetary value in "original", rather than restored. Besides, "working clothes" show more of the character.
@J-14102 жыл бұрын
For a lot of them, it would be somewhat pointless as they sit outside at Crosby. Its somewhat obvious if you look at where they are lined up that they sit there, outside, for a long time.
