Love your energy in your video. You have a new subscriber! I've been having my own cichlid fry myself. I've stripped the female of the eggs and put the eggs into tumblers, as well as put the female in her own tank by herself and have the fry naturally.. Your way of breeding seems to be working great for you! Well done. Love this hobby. More than one way to skin a cat! lol or in this case, raise a fish!

I really appreciate that ! I would say life has gotten in the way but that’s still no excuse! I just upgraded the other aquaponics IBC system, added a HUGE tank into it on top of the 125. Luckily I got video of EVERYTHING! I’m about 40% through editing and the custom background should be here this weekend ! Big things on the way! I work in the roofing industry so fall/winter you should expect regular vids !

I am curious if you know anything about females breeding by themselves. I thought that I had a male cichlid but she reproduced on her own. She was the only fish in my tank for a year now I have a baby fish that is I think a year old. And I think she has eggs in her mouth again.

I once had a 7inch Fahaka Puffer, with 2 Oscars a small RTC a green terror and 2 yellow labs in my 125g, after about a month or so I had to get him out of there because he was biting the fins off my fish. Everyday I'd wake up I'd see fins missing on my fish.

my female has already released her babys and i want to put her back in the tank. should i quarantine her for a while since she looks so tired or would that be a problem later when i introduce her back in the main tank?
@diybyericbarnes
@diybyericbarnes Жыл бұрын
I would not be surprised if she ate her own baby’s if you put her back in. A quarantine would not be a bad idea just to over feed her a bit for a few days. She’s likely malnourished as to be expected. Might as well do a round of general cure when in quarantine and make sure it’s warm in there. 84+

You da man - thanks for the video. About three weeks ago I put my juvenile discus in my 125 gallon tank and all was going well until last week when I noticed one of the larger juveniles started staying by itself. Not acting sick, just wanted to be left alone. This afternoon I discovered eggs on a piece of drift wood. I have bred a bazillion angels but never discus. I assume these eggs will become sushi but now I have the bug. I am a big believer in methylene blue until the eggs hatch and then they become wigglers - at least with angels. My question is if I see eggs on an isolated leaf or surface can I hatch out the eggs in a separate tank and introduce the parents when they become wigglers and/or free swimmers? Thanks discus bro' - Greetings from Rapid City, SD
@diybyericbarnes
@diybyericbarnes Жыл бұрын
I have heard of people doing that after the parents have raised fry before. Otherwise I’d assume they would eat the wiggles every time not knowing it’s their own fry. I would suggest trying a cage of some sort around the eggs if you are worried about the parents eating them before they can become wrigglers.
