Goodness Melanie, what a lot you are having to deal with in terms of your health, I hope you get some good news soon. I love your bunting, it's so bright and happy. You are so kind and generous to make the bunting for your friend's daughter - I hope she loves it in her dorm room.

Mr. Gardiner is comfortable middle class (NOT an attorney, my mistake, he is in TRADE)), but he is NOT landed gentry. Lizzie's father is from the poorer portion of the gentry, but he married Jane Gardiner (as was) for love (attraction) and her dowry. The Gardiners are from the same class as the Bingleys, but Darcy does not look down on them. He treats them with respect. Elizabeth Elliot is a sad figure but mostly reaped crops she sowed herself. Wentworth was likely the second son of a minor gentleman. Note that his sister married a gentleman-officer (we meet him as Admiral Croft). A nicely done recap of your ranking.

The Gardiners are not the same class as the Bingleys, Mr Gardiner still works. I must have misspoke but I did not refer to Gardiner as landed gentry but to Darcy, he is landed gentry.

Wentworth’s family must have been respectable with his elder brother being in the clergy but starting out as a curate but later getting a living. No fortune though and definitely no rank.

@@MelanieMartinCreates I am not English either, so I could be wrong about this class stuff. I've had to guess and figure things out. We're led to believe that Bingley's FATHER made his fortune in trade (he worked for a living), and Mr. Gardiner also works for a living (as a professional, but who was HIS father)? IF the younger Bingley buys an estate and he and Jane have children, they will exhibit social mobility and will BEGIN to look like gentry. Darcy is LONG-established gentry, but we can still guess that far back in time his ancestor was either a bright Norman soldier or a farmer connected in some fashion with a big shot, and even further back, they were cave dwellers. Recall that Pip is given Great Expectations and wants to be a gentleman, but he ends up working for a living. IS he a gentleman? The concept became blurred over time. Here in the States we like to claim we are a classless society, but is this so? Most work for a living, but this divide between blue collar and white collar is real. My father's family appears to be of mostly English descent from the south, and most of the males were professional, in trade or education. My mother's family is mostly Scotch-Irish, were mostly miners and farmers, liked to drink, and the women were tough. Native intelligence across the two strands seems to be about a wash. Is class real. Yes.

Fanny's father was not a "sailor" but a lieutenant of Marines, a junior officer and a gentleman (almost certainly the sone of a gentleman. But I agree with your opinion of Edmund. NA IS the weakest of the books but I had an easier time reading it than MP or Sense and Sensibility. NA's monsters are frightfully black and white.

Thanks for all the corrections, in the English navy, you may refer to sailor as a general term as anyone who is seagoing no matter of rank. Sailors first.

Lovely video, very beautiful. I was curious to know who might be buried at this place: King John (died 1216), except that his heart is at Croxton Abbey; and Prince Arthur (died 1502) elder brother of Henry VIII. Also Stanley Baldwin's ashes are buried here, Prime Minister 3 times. I am interested in your project of visiting Cathedrals and taking pictures, I hope we get to see more.

I somehow missed your latest KZfaq incarnation and am excited that there so many videos I can watch to catch up with you. I also love to listen while I am busy with my hands... in my case I am usually painting or knitting. I listening to the first 2 books in the Thursday Murder Club series and then got a bit bored. A. couple of the other books you suggested sound good. I am very sensitive to sounds so agree that the narration needs to be really good to listen for so many hours.

I just came across your podcast and am always looking for cozy mysteries. I live in the States and I am also a knitter who likes to listen to audio books. I thought the Thursday Murder Club was great, and excited to hear about the movie. I am a big Agatha Christie fan and have read or listened to all of her books several times. I just ran across a knitting cozy mystery from Maggie Sefton. The yarn shop that this author talks about does exist and is in Colorado. I have only read a few and they OK. One of the comments recommends Elizabeth Peters and I second that. Can't wait to hear about more books. Happy Knitting!!

Thank you so much for making this video, Melanie! It’s reassuring to know that you too found it difficult and yet you haven’t given up on it, and that it’s actually helping you. This makes me want to go back to it and try it again. I was among those people who give up in week two - the many references to God irritated me to the point of not wanting to carry on with the book, and the artist’s dates and the tasks felt like something I wasn’t willing to do at the time. I followed the journaling advice for a while though and I did get some benefits, but I’m sure that I’d get more out of it by following it properly. Good luck on your journey! ❤

A couple of years ago I took my 87 year-old mother to Canterbury Cathedral. Now we, like you, are beginning to tick them off, having since been to Durham, Peterborough, and Lichfield. She is 90 now, but in September we are staying in Hereford for a couple of nights so we can visit that Cathedral, and will stop at Worcester on the way home. Obviously, over time we have visited many of the others so are trying to add as yet unvisited Cathedrals to our list.

Hi Melanie, Happy Friday 🎉 This is a great project. Hope to visit Hagia Sophia one day and others around the world. Back in the day, I lived nearby a cathedral and I enjoyed the silence and peace. I would go do my spiritual reading and prayer. My favorite place was the chapel where the Blessed Sacrament was exposed. It was a transformative experience. I need quiet in my life to recuperate and deal with the chaos of every day life… It would be great if you were to offer postcards. There are never enough postcards out there. I do postcrossing and participate in postcards swaps. Looking forward to the next segment of this project 🙌 Happy weekend 🎉
