Wow, this is a blast from the past. One of the famed "Three M" boys from that era, Maravich, Mount & Murphy. All very different except that they were all scoring machines. I remember him well because as I grew up in the Norwalk, CT area we were obviously partial to Calvin Murphy, so both Maravich & Mount were kind of long distance rivals of sorts.

LOVE the plain hardwood floor. As far as the basketball, not too good. Far too much dribbling, not enough ball movement, lots of bad shots.

Purest shooting stroke you will ever see. Exactly the same every time. Dribble once or twice , elevate and release. Pure! They weren’t setting screens to get him open.

I got to partake of the Rick mount era at Purdue and even before when he was in high school at Lebanon. We played Lebanon all 4 years he was there, beat them all 4 times, but Mount always put up big numbers. He put up big numbers at Purdue too, got to see him there all 4 years. He was in the opening game at Mackey Arena against UCLA and Lew Alcindor, Purdue came within 3 seconds of winning that one!

@theehippy You just don't understand the game relative to talent and time, I know Rick well, he's a friend. If you put him in the contemporary game with present day training, trends, nutrition etc., he'd excel. If you put LeBron back to the late 60's, he'd be Gus Johnson, Late 60s, 70s players would evolve my friend.

@@fcharlesd8468 At age 50 I walked into a gym not having touched a bball but once in 6 months. after warming up I shot 100 free throws .. made 85. I really got screwed once going out for a team that won a state title and it turned me off. Had some personal issues as well. Got a bad attitude and said the hell with it. But as far as just shooting a bball, havent ran into many who were better, if I do say so myself.

@racebannon8569 sorry to hear about your bad experience. Coaches can be assholes, most of them are. Now, I'm glad you have that confidence and ability to shoot. Good for you. But, I gotta tell ya, you could never outshoot Rick. Rick's a friend of man. I coached in his shooting camps for several years. If you'd watch him demo and teach his technique, he'll take 100 jumpers during that session. For the years I coached with him, he made 95 or more out of 100. There's a reason Rick was the first high school athlete to ever appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. There's a reason he was a 3X All American. There's a reason he still holds multiple scoring records at Purdue, and in the Big Ten. The reason is, the man can straight up shoot the basketball. He's still coaching summer camps, and still sizzling the twine. Good luck my friend, keep ballin

@@fcharlesd8468 Yes and an abusive family that constantly tried to bring me down. Crabs in basket is a true thing . They can destroy talent. Beware jealous people. Later on played in a league against a guy who was a star and captain of the team a year prior to the championship. They went 27-1 just like the team that won it the next year and finished runner up for the NC 3A title . I torched him for 25 and was being double and triple teamed the whole second half. Felt good. @@fcharlesd8468 Interesting. I love the old videos of the guys who could really shoot it and I admire Mount's ability. Wasn't downing him at all. Love the Indiana hoops culture and would like to see the filming locations of Hoosiers. I just had this unique ability to throw stuff. Could knock a bird off a light pole w/ a rock . Was a baseball pitcher. I was far sighted and could also shoot a penny off a corn cob w/ a 22 rifle.. 20/13 vision. I wasted a ton of talent. Life is short. I would have loved to shoot w/ Mount when I was younger just to see.

When I was a little boy , I saw Rick Mount on TV . He was the first to show me , it was ok to buck conventional wisdom & shoot long shots anyway . With no 3-point line , you'd be ridiculed for even shooting them . Benched . It had to be my weapon against much older guys in our neighborhood . As a senior , my weapon wasn't valued in '77 ( 3 came in '80 ) About that time , a few miles away , arrived a guy named Larry . Turned out to be an excellent guy to mimic going forward . Into my mid twenties my 3 became downright deadly . They had to double team the ball out of my hands early , then deny . Always tried to get better . Spent many hours in the gym , by myself . "gym rat" for sure . Plenty of trash talk for sure . Loved Larry & Reggie Miller for that . That would be a case of I won't start it , but would be severe once I banged 3 threes in 3 trips . I always have said , as a shooter , when the ball is going to the rim , do the other 9 players on the court think it's going in , just because they let you get it off ?? , Or not . I got there. It was quite a zone to be in . Through the years , I've studied all sorts of guys shot release . The 3 is now shot more than ever . Stephen Curry's seems to be as similar as any I've seen . The years have now past . I'm in my sixties now & don't need to go the way of Pistol Pete. Another of my early influences . I maximized what I had . Great memories . Here's to growing up in Indiana , playing hoops . And here's to you Rick Mount , handing out license to " Let it fly " Hope life is treating you well . Every word as true as the day ( or 3point shot ) is long. Long Bomber Out .
