Wish you had more decription of the drum types. I have a portable saw mill which appears to have a drum connected to a hand crank to move the carriage. I need to get a drum that will provide about 10% more "lift" travel. It might be a VERTICAL lift since it doesn't look like the Hi Lift of the Standard, however you never showed what the VERICAL lift rum looks like. NOTE: I assume the grooves are cut like threads.

Thank you for a clear explanation of how to use the measurement devices. My old springs are so rusty that the color code and whatever may have been printed on them is long gone. Thanks again.

Do the larger steps on the drum increase or decrease the initial torque when opening a door?
@servicespringcorp
@servicespringcorp 6 ай бұрын
The larger steps on the drum increase the torque by increasing the lever arm. So as we step down, we lose torque as we lose tension. Also the bigger the step the farther we can go on (or more cable can wrap on the drum) per one turn of the spring.

Typical torsion spring replacement is a 10,000 cycle spring. For a small upcharge request a 30,000 cycle replacement! The labor is the same, but 3x the life. 2-3 years after replacement check to see if the springs need a slight adjustment to keep it in like new tension. As springs age they get weak and the opener works harder, so a recheck and retension extends the opener life. Oil your springs yearly because rust makes the springs brittle

Thank you helped a ton. Local shop wanted to charge me 450 for the labor plus another 200 for the spring. Yeah I worked construction for 20 years and I'm not gonna pay for something I can do myself.

Wow great information. My dad’s shop just had one broken. And might do this method to temporarily fix his door so he can have running 😎 thanks for the advice.

Here is a tip. If you can’t spin the roller in the hinge on the door the track is to tight. It is the door seals job to seal the door, not the face of the door and the jamb. Loosen track until rollers spin freely then install the seal to press lightly against the door as to tight causes excessive wear and may jamb the door causing cable derailment.

Can I wire a momentary switch on XB03 terminal 1 and 2 to open and close the garage door?
@servicespringcorp
@servicespringcorp 2 жыл бұрын
You can do a momentary switch, but it would be on terminals 3 & 4. Either on the motor head or the wall station. Terminals 1 & 2 are the photo eyes. Thanks.

This is a good option now that your springs are two to three months out lead times. However as a door professional this is confusing. She says how to install the spring block and states a quarter inch out of block but then shows two blocks? So to properly not repair a spring properly it needs two blocks on one coil spread apart an inch or two or???
@servicespringcorp
@servicespringcorp 2 жыл бұрын
Apologies for the confusion. Spring repair blocks are to be used in pairs, one break in a spring requires two repair block. The wire in the last block should only have ¼ inch past the outside of the set screw. Please remember these are intended as a very temporary solution to a problem. Once a spring has reached its cycle life, it will break again. Thank you for the comment

Is the spring supposed to spin over the winding cone? I went to retension the thing and i get to 25 quarter turns and damn thing sproinged up onto the winding holes
@servicespringcorp
@servicespringcorp 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Zack, Torsion springs should only be adjusted by professionals as they are extremely dangerous. One of two things can cause what you are describing. 1) The springs were wound the wrong way or 2) Something prevented the spring from growing when tension was added. Either one of these actions can cause it to spin on the cone too far. Please contact a certified professional for more help. Thank you Service Spring

Great video. Is it normal that the door opener moves a little as the door moves up and down?
@servicespringcorp
@servicespringcorp 4 жыл бұрын
There is a great deal of force that is used to open the door, so it is not uncommon to see slight movement, but, make sure the mounting bracket is secured to the wall and the coupling is installed correctly.

To add to this it weighs almost nothing. imagine a bathroom exhaust fan. If you hit a stud you could use one screw and never notice the difference (my builder thought this and I only noticed because I removed this when I went to paint the garage).

I would like to install the 8500w, but i don't have an electrical outlet where the 8500w would be mounted, I only have teh outlet in teh center of teh garage door where the lift light would be mounted, can I run a heavy duty extension cord to get power to the motor? Call an electrician would cost me more than 3 motors just to put in an outlet near the 8500w.
@servicespringcorp

An electrical outlet is required within 6’ of the installation area. If outlet does not exist, contact a qualified electrician.

hi how close to the track do you install the life screen (track) so when it close it don't gap
@servicespringcorp
@servicespringcorp 8 жыл бұрын
+Tim A. The Lifestyle Screen has its own track mounting brackets that place the LS track right behind and below the original door track. With the garage door in the open position, the screen door comes down against the wall jambs just like the garage door. The hardware mounted on the Lifestyle Screen door properly pushes the screen door right against the door jamb in the close position to ensure a tight fit just like the garage door. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact our sales teams at 800.752.8522.
