I was a little concerned for you while watching, since you appeared to be taking the tree down solo. Also your flip line doesn't look like it's got a steel cable in the center of it. (I regularly watch the YT channels of The Really Tall Tree Guy and Guilty of Treeson, so I know a tiny bit about the equipment they use.)

I really like how you work in the tree. It reminds me a lot of the kind of challenges I face in the work I do as well. I am running SRS with a Unicender and drum kit as well. I also really appreciate un-edited videos of tree work. I know they are long, but I learn so much from the difficult parts of the climb. Even though it doesn't look cool when you have to scramble over a branch, the way you do that, and the tricks you employ to not have to work so hard are a really valuable tool for a newer climber. Thanks so much for the fun video.

You can also use it for when you have a spar you have chunked down to a height you can drop from from the ground, and theres nowhere to tie in and descend. You tie the rope that you're going to use to pull the trunk over with onto the top and use the figure 8 to descend down the pull line instead of spiking down. Or if you have a tree that would be easier to spike up and set a pull line than messing with a throw line. Just use the figure 8 to descend the line instead of getting out your climbing gear and rope.

Are you in Michigan? I just got back into tree work after a 22 year absence, I gave up what most people think is a very successful career of 22 years in finance, only to be truly successful (happy), outdoors working hard, landscaping, tree fellen, teaching young guys just out of school and just earning an honest days pay for a honest days work. Happy for once in 20 years. In these missed years, I have gotten a fear of heights and being 44 it’s hard to climb, I wasn’t really a climber in the past working with my uncles tree company that are now gone. It’s been hard trying to find someone reliable with climbing and topping experience. I got a couple young guys eager but I can’t teach them something I can’t really do. Any thoughts or advice would really help us. It’s not like there’s a school for this, I wanna help myself of course but I wanna help these young guys that are eager and love it like I do. Thanks Michael

I am humbled that you reached out to me, with a heart to train a younger generation. And knowledge of knowing what bad habits that can come about in this hazardous industry. I fell into tree work i needed a job, and i bs my way thru interview. I was always scared of heights. It wasnt till i let that be known among them fearless climbers i grounded for. I humbled myself , and was given good opportunities, good reports from them same men, and some criticism. If you asked me who i thought would make a good trainer for them, I would say you are, just in what i read. Keep them at a place where they will succeed. Humble and respect for the hazards associated with the job first. Tree species & biology,

I use the 8 setup you show as a redirect as a main tie-in all the time. Really nice way to get your tie-in higher in the canopy with configurations for support, load sharing, or backup of the tie-in that wouldn’t be reasonable otherwise. Great video, ❤ the 8 as a tool on my harness!
