I have a lot of panicle hydrangeas and I find they all flop equally. But over the years I have bought enough steaks to stake practically every branch and that’s essentially what I do after a heavy rain storm. I have a couple recent videos on my channel and you can see that the steaks are pretty well hidden.

Potato berries serve you no purpose, so remove the flowers when you see them - BUT the flowers do give you a sign that it’s almost harvest time 🤤 Flowers are a good sign that new potatoes are starting to form and they’ll soon be able to harvest. Not all varieties produce flowers, so don’t be worried if your potatoes don’t produce flowers - but if you see them, now you know what they mean and what to do with them 👌 #gardening #growingpotatoes #containergarden #growbaggardening #potatoharvest #potatotips #veggiegarden #urbangarden #smallspacegardening #zone8a #atlanta

Look for a hydrangea PANICULATA variety - it’s a group of hydrangeas that bloom late summer with big fluffy white blooms and are super low maintenance

I have 2 inspire hydrangeas ( in pots) and even though they are good to zone 3 ( I'm zone 6) I still bring them inside ,because we get late frosts..and I don't want to lose the blooms. My other panicle hydrangeas don't get the love !! I know they will still bloom.

There are so many amazing hydrangea paniculata varieties, it’s impossible to grow them all - but there’s definitely one for every full sun spot you have in your garden. I’ve grown a number of them, and they’re all unique and fabulous in their own way, so if you wanted to collect them all, you totally have a an excuse to 😜. Here are a few of my favorites and what I love about them: @pwcolorchoice limelight: it’s an older variety, but it’s popular for a reason. HUGE blooms, vigorous grower. Yes, it can flop if not pruned correctly, but by far the blooms on this are the largest and most impressive. @pwcolorchoice limelight prime: in my experience this is a slower grower, smaller bloom size - but it doesn’t flop at all and it’s beautiful. It blooms about a month earlier than limelight @pwcolorchoice pinky winky: one of the earliest paniculata bloomers in my garden - more open bloom structure, turns the pinkest in my garden and a pollinator magnet. @firsteditionsshrubstrees vanilla strawberry hydrangea: this is my first year with this shrub and it’s beautiful. Well branched, strong stems. I’ll keep you posted on how it grows 👌 @living.creations pinky promise hydrangea - absolutely beautiful and one of the only paniculata hydrangeas that turn a dark beautiful pink for me. The shrub itself is compact, but the blooms are HUGE - and this one does flop in a rainstorm, but it’s so stunning 🤩 @pwcolorchoice firelight tid bit: this compact hydrangea has really blown me away - it grows quickly but has actually stayed the size written on the tag 🤣 - it’s well branched, blooms don’t flop, blooms the earliest of the paniculata hydrangeas I have grown. The blooms age really well (they don’t turn pink…. But don’t brown… if that makes sense) so they last for months. #hydrangeas #hydrangeaflower #hydrangeaseason #hydrangeatips #hydrangeacare #provenwinners #firsteditionshrubs #livingcreations

I have several little limes, a limelight prime and little lime punches in my yard. The little lime that was planted last year has HUGE blooms this year and is about 4 feet high and 3 feet wide. The blooms flopped following rainstorms and I had to stake the plant to support it and it's doing alot better. We planted the limelight prime this spring. I was told this plant would grow more upward than outward. I did see a video by Creekside Nursery where they showed an established limelight prime and it does appear to grow in this manner (it looked alot different that yours does -- maybe it gets more sun or something). It has plenty of space around it though so it's not competing with other plants. The blooms are not as large as the limelight or little limes but it's still a beautiful shrub. I think the little lime punches are my favorite. They grow in a more compact form and I think that really helps prevent them from flopping as much. I have recently seen several different videos that were saying if you prune a certain way, the panicles will not flop or won't flop as much. However, until the plant is established (year 3 or so) the branches may not be strong enough to prevent it from happening. As far as the deer, we have a ton of deer where we live. Last year I didn't put out repellent early enough and they did start nibbling on one of my hydrangeas. This year I was very consistent with applying Liquid Fence and putting out Irish Spring shavings the second I started seeing green on the shrubs. I didn't have any issue with deer.

I wonder what the difference between Limelight Prime and Little Lime is. I have two Little Limes and the blooms look similar to the Prime. My Little Limes are on year 3 and they are about 4 feet tall. Last year my husband set a sprinkler on them during a long dry spell and all the water weighed the branches down as well. We haven't had rain for many weeks but I have just used a hose at the base to water now and then.

I’m getting a lot of questions about tomatoes recently so I thought I’d put together top reasons why your tomato plants might not be making tomatoes. Share this with your favorite backyard tomato farmer who might be struggling to get that instaworthy tomato haul 👩🌾. Pollination: tomatoes are cool in that they are self pollinating and don’t technically NEED pollinators to become pollinated - wind can be enough to pollinate the tomatoes. If you’re seeing lots of flowers but very few fruit - you can try self pollinating by tapping/tickling the tomato flowers to help with pollination, Heat: tomatoes grow best when it’s hot - but not too hot. When temperatures creep up past the 90s tomato plants go into “dormancy” to minimize stress. You can’t really blame them, if I was a tomato plant, I’d do the same 😂. Keep your tomatoes pruned, watered, and fed - when temperatures come back down, they’ll keep growing and producing for you. Sunlight: most veggies want full full sun to grow and produce the maximum amount of fruit. No light? No fruit. You can try trimming away branches to increase light - but just know, if your garden is excessively shaded - expect a smaller harvest. Hope this helps! 🍅 happy gardening 👩🌾 #tomatoseason #growingtomatoes #tomatotroubles #tomatotroubleshooting #tomatotroublesolved #veggiegarden #backyardgarden #urbangarden #containergarden #atlanta #zone8a

Flop is just a fact of hydrangea life as far as I’m concerned. I don’t cut down all my azaleas after a thunderstorm knocks blooms off.
@candledancer23 күн бұрын
I'd keep the limelight hedge. They are spectacular. It would be an immense job to take out. I use to have a limelight hedge and every spring, I'd trim it back about 2/3 down. The blooms were huge! I never had an issue with flopping. In my new house, I planted 2 limelight primes as I don't have the space for a limelight. This will be there 2nd year. Buds but no blooms yet.
@nangel2703 күн бұрын
Bottom line - if it doesn’t make you happy remove it. Life is too short and garden real estate too scant to be looking at a plant that disappoints just because you spent money on it.
@karenwestby-gibson7583 күн бұрын
You didn’t plant them at the same time or even the same year. Year 3 is the magic number for most scrubs.
@d.s.58203 күн бұрын
1. The Limelight Prime is not as old or well established. 2. You planted the prime very close to an established shrub (the lime light). The roots of the lime light will out-compete the new shrub. You can see that the prime has light green leaves from getting less nutrients and water. 3. To make a comparison of any value to anyone, you need two plants planted around the same time.
@QualeHouse3 күн бұрын
You’d have to plant at the same time to get a good comparison. The blooms get bigger and mature each year the plant is in the ground. So it’s just too hard to compare such a new plant.
@gardensandchickens3 күн бұрын
You’re so right. It is hard to compare - limelight has been around for years and prime came out only a few years ago. 🤷🏻♀️

I think it was a great comparison of the two limelight. I'd rather have the Limelight even if it does flop from the weight of the gorgeous hydrangea flowers. It's absolutely stunning. I have 2 primes and the blooms are nah! Nothing that makes me go wowwwww! I have a few hydrangeas little fresco ( too small to flower yet, and 2 gorgeous inspire hydrangeas ( in pots that I bring into my sunroom over winter as I don't want to lose them to the cold ). Hydrangeas are just a total wow statement in any garden.

@@gardensandchickens my Limelight Prime is in its 4 years old though, maybe that is a reason why? Or maybe it has mutated or reverted back to Limelight? Who knows. My Little Lime did that. Grew to 8 feet tall and had to leave.🤣 Didn’t care for the flower color and extreme floppiness.😁

Why my hydrangea are growing too slow?
@gardensandchickens7 күн бұрын
It’s tough out there for tomato plants (at least it is here in my Atlanta garden). The army worms and other caterpillar “friends” have found my tomatoes as well as lots of “fantastic” fungal diseases. How am I still harvesting tomatoes? Well… I’ll tell you. I harvest tomatoes when they first start “blushing” - once they begin changing from green to light orange and tomatoes are about 30% of full color, that’s known as the breaker stage - and that’s when science says that’s when you can pick tomatoes and they have the full tomato taste (once ripened indoors). Picking tomatoes at the breaker stage helps preventing them from splitting, diseased,or being eaten by caterpillar “friends”, birds, and other client wildlife. #growingtomatoes #tomatoharvest #veggiegarden #urbangarden #kitchengarden #backyardgarden #atlanta #southerngarden #zone8a #georgiagarden
