Hi and thanks for the question. The CoG is about 14 cm from the LE edge which is about 4.5 cm behind the spot suggested by D. Boddington, the designer. I now have 425 gr. of lead up front. Even though the CoG seems to be a little aft the strange thing is that the model needs a little up elevator. Remember the split elevator has a large moving area. Nice job of reproduction, a wooden propeller would be better, but you would have to add weight. And you've already put in plenty. In mine I put the ailerons to have more control in flight, since distortion is impossible on small wings. I have to test it again, since my os 5cc 4-stroke is small and does not take off.🖐

Thanks for the comment. I agree on the wooden propellar. I have a Turnigy 10x4 wooden proppeller ready but have been using a Robbe 10x5 plastic one while building currage and competence. The SC 30 FS engine has marginal power similar to your OS. I can see in one of your videos that you have been using a 10x5 wooden prop and a plastic one also. How do they compare? B

@birgiredwald
@birgiredwald Жыл бұрын
Thanks Douglas Well, yes, I would think so. The wings on this model are flexible enough to accept the warping but the mechanics needed to implement it are most likely a bit more complicated than one would think in the beginning. Mr. Boddington did not implement wing warping in his plans and I doubt that it would help flying the model. However, the challenge to try it is very compelling. :-) B.

Thanks for the vid. Very pleasing mechanics. I think the spring moving vertically, would be smoother and have greater absorbancy if they built it so it sprung more diagonally, so when it compresses the craft moves forward diagonally. if you put your hands one over the other about 1 foot apart and diagonally move your hands to your elbows. rather that your hands going up and down. i hope that made some sense to someone. lol could also raise the front of the frame so if it endos, it might not tip over from digging in. Do you still have this plane!

Thanks for your remarks. Yes, I still have the model in one piece and good condition. I intend to take it to the field next summer, but it needs an exceptionally good weather because of its demanding flight characteristics. 😉. There are many things that would be designed differently if it were to be upgraded to modern technology. I tried to follow Luis Bleriot’s design as well as I could. This build was done by David’s Boddingtons plan with some minor mods. Thanks for the interest B.

Hallo Birgir. Can you give me some help please? I have just started building a mini super from the OZ plans service. The issue at the moment is that the 2 Oz Dubro tank does not fit between the bulkheads which means I have to make one. How did you make your tank and what materials please? Pictures would help also. I have scoured the internet and not much on the mini super. Thanks. Peter
@birgiredwald
@birgiredwald Жыл бұрын
Hi Peter I use 6oz Slec Maxi fuel tank. It’s 47 mm wide and fits nicely between the bulkheads. I did build my own before by soldering tin sheets together but it always started to leak sooner or later. The SLEC 6oz tank gives my about 15 min in the air which is more than enough for my nerves anyway. You can find the tank here, it is the red one: www.slecuk.com/fuel-tanks-accessories/maxi-fuel-tanks B

@@birgiredwald Hey Birgir. I made a brass tank because I could not see any other way of mounting a commercial 4 OZ. But I have since come across your blog on how you revamped your Mini Super and now I can see the tank installation. You are a wizard! The tank sits lower than OS engines recommend but you have done it and it works which is fine by me. I am also on the same thinking as you with regard to keeping the model looking exactly as it is on the box. So pleased today I managed to get three rolls of RED covering and the black and white trim. I regard you as the authority on the KK Mini Super! Thanks Birgir. Pete

@@birgiredwald I really appreciate your replies. I admire the way you have kept this plane so long and modified the wings and engines to suit your flying capabilities. I have always liked this model since I first saw it in the eighties. I will get the plan today from oz and put a OS15 in it. If I can get some red covering a mini super has to be red! How did you do the black and white trimming please? I never trim my models but should do. Peter
@birgiredwald
@birgiredwald Жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter I use Oracover for covering and Solartrim for the trim. The best way is to cut the trim out, spray the covered area with window cleaner (the blue stuff) and lay the trim in place. The window cleaner allows you to slide the trim in place. When you are happy use a credit card or a cloth to press the fluid from under the Solartrim and it sticks. This is even easier than it sounds. The white stripes are just cut from the Oracover film with two razor blades glued to each side of a 3 mm balsa. I’ve had problems with the stripes, they tend to get loose. If there is a better way I would be glad to hear about it. B

@@birgiredwald Birgir..... many thanks. That's a good tip re the trimming. A standard 2 OZ dubro tank does not fit between the bulkheads so the only way was to make one from brass sheet that fits perfectly. Instead of a clunk for sideways movement when banking , I have made a cylindrical pot rather like a dressmakers thimble and soldered that to the bottom of the tank. The feed pipe goes right down to the bottom of the pot so that there will always be fuel when banking. Really enjoying the build. Have a good day. Peter

Had no instructions to go by just a book with the rough 3 view to build the tiny card models. Ended up building 2 of them. One had a 2 foot wing and the other had a 3 foot wing if I remember right. @birgiredwald
@birgiredwald 4 жыл бұрын
Yes Tim, you are absolutely right. The rigging is a lot simplified compared to the plane that Luis Bleriot flew across the Channel in 1909. On Boddington’s plan that I used, all the top rigging comes to one point in the top strut but on the original plane the top strut where the roof-like version. I tried to imitate the roof-like strut but did not implement the wing warping system from the original plane. The location of the eyelets is therefore just a consequence of the placement of the fuselage formers in Boddington’s plan. The correct placement can be seen in this video of a full size Bleriot XI. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNF6rNB-sJmXip8.html It is also worth noting the different types of elevators.
