Do you know how the fret spacing for the mini ii compares to the original mini? I play baritone uke and love the 20" scale, specifically because of the fret spacing. It is noticeably different?
@fretfrontier21 күн бұрын
@mr.schrecker - Hi, the mini II has longer fret spacing, it feels more comfortable than a full-size guitar, but you’ll definitely feel the difference between the 20 inch scale. In addition you feel the length in your left arm reaching away from your body. So more weight in your left shoulder reaching out. It will give you more projection/volume than the 20 inch - the regular mini - But you will still need to bring a little mini amp with you if you want to play with a bunch of people that have full size guitars, and be heard. For me, it is worth having and this size has become my preferred travel guitar for going to jam sessions and so on. Hope that helps.

What?! Noooooooo! Where the solo? This is such a great series. I love all of transposition detail you added in there because I always struggle with that when I'm trying to translate from a guitar piece to ukulele. But, this isn't done. C'mon now, don't leave us hanging without the solo. No one could be that cruel. Seriously though, thank you so much for doing such a great job of teaching in these videos.
@fretfrontierАй бұрын
@rakehell404 - lol… you know I was wondering about the solo - to include or not, that was the question. I thought, naw people might not want to do all that. sounds like I guessed wrong! I love that solo. I think the accoustic version is one of the best examples of blending a solo into a tune with Travis picking. I’ll put it on my future episode list. but it won’t be right away. At the moment I’m working through ‘dock of the bay’. thanks for your comment, and I am glad you enjoyed the tutorial! 🎶🎶

And now you started Djembe as well? Believe it or not - I started learning finger drumming but I struggle a lot with all these new musical terms I have to learn to get midi things up and running. Just re-watched your video about the bass amp and this showed up afterwards. Wish you lot of fun with your new gear. I really like Meinl - it‘s German company, isn‘t it? I‘m going to buy a Meinl practice pad for doing some „real drumming“ as well. And then there is no more money left 😂
@fretfrontierАй бұрын
@teeum5 - the drum is a long story. It started as part of an anniversary celebration, and I didn’t think I would play it much beyond that event, but it turned out to be so much fun I got hooked! And you are right, Meinl is based in Gutenstetten! That’s new information for me. Thanks for mentioning it, I had not initially noticed, very cool. 😎

I got one of those amps in a trade. I found it more toy like than amp like. It is not loud enough for anything other than quiet practice without distorting. At least that's how mine was.
@fretfrontierАй бұрын
@McFly-guitars-n-stuff You got it in a trade! very cool great way to recycle gear. Mine gives me suitable volume as long as I treat the gain more like the volume control. So I turn that way up and it doesn’t distort unless I use the toggle for the OverDrive. I’m sorry to hear yours distorts all the time. Good to know though, thanks for sharing that. And you’re right they’re no competition for full size. Definitely wish there were more mini bass amp options.

So, I grew up with a tiny nylon string guitar. It has become quite troublesome to play in recent years. Bad frets, no real fretboard (it's actually just the same piece of wood as the neck, just painted a different colour). I was wondering, do you have a preference between the original Mini or the Mini II? I'm curious if sourcing an original Mini would be worth the headache or if the Mini II would suffice. The Mini II certainly sounds good to my ears anyway. Thanks!
@fretfrontier2 ай бұрын
Hi, they are both fun sizes, the preference will come with what you plan to primarily use it for. If you will be playing with other people, you might want the mini II because it is the larger of the two so you’ll get a bit more volume. You’d also probably want to get a mini II with the Electronics in it like the EB so you can plug it into a little mini amp cause you will not be as loud as the steel string players otherwise. If you are primarily playing for your own enjoyment then the regular mini is light and easy to have around. You can even play a song or two on the couch in between commercials if you’re watching TV. it’s fun and convenient. Neither is a bad choice however, as they are both very playable. I hope that helps. Thank you for watching!

@fretfrontier I ended up getting a Manuel Rodriguez T-53, it was about the same price as one of the higher-end Mini IIs. I'm really enjoying it so far, you can't really find reviews or videos about any of the smaller models from that brand, so I was taking a real gamble when I ordered it!

Thanks for this video. I have the white version of this ukulele. I find the action a little bit high, so I would like to know where you get a lowest saddle? Thanks for reply.
@fretfrontier3 ай бұрын
@marielue - I used the Miwayer Ukulele Real Bone 53mm Bridge Saddle. it brought the action down to 2.75 - the compensated version is better for intonation on the 12th fret but the regular one will work too as far as the action. hope this info proves useful. link to the saddle…. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HJRRWC9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cordoba claims both the EB-CE and MH weigh the same. Interesting that you find the EB-CE more neck heavy. I find the MH equally as heavy so I prefer a headstock strap, not the button under the neck.

@ALIENsosa - yes, body design can make the balance feel different even when overall weight is same. Good point on the headstock straps vs the under neck button - agreed. On acoustic instruments I also tend to skip the under neck button.

Thanks for having this review! I was looking for an entry-level uke, to have as my own, but also have something familiar for a friend coming from out of town. Her uke is very special to her, and so she didnt want to travel with it, but i wanted to have something good for her to play, as well as learn myself. Having been someone who tried to learn guitar in my teenage years but gave it up, im excited to try again in learning a string instrument, as the only one i can do well is my voice!

@SternDrive - the accoustic blues series might be a bit too much for a beginner. I hope you’ll stick around and try a few things. But I don’t have ‘new to Uke’ lessons out yet. don’t get discouraged whatever you try or whatever channels you explore. You will find you can definitely do this. You've made a couple of things unecessarily confusing here. I don't know how the Ramirez model numbers work but spelling it as 1/4 suggests its a 1/4 size guitar which would make sense to expect in your video comparing small guitars (and you do clarify that it is full size but it creates confusing expectations). Then you measure scale length from nut to top of fretboard which is not the standard way to measure scale length, it is measured to the saddle. Which again asks for confusing when you say the ramirez has a 17" scale.
