Wow! 🇨🇦Linda

Can't people say "What did you shop for"?
@englishspeaking3602 күн бұрын
Yes, that's a great question to ask. However, some people may tell you not to end a sentence with a preposition. That's an actual grammar rule but these days many people finish sentences with prepositions, so don't worry about it.

You mean a bridge with bamboo is a creativity but a bridge with steel is not?!!!!!!!😮 If you see lots of English teaching books there is absolutely no difference between the use of made of and made with.
@englishspeaking3603 күн бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the feedback. Made of and made with may be similar in some instances. However, they are often very different. For example: This cake is made with real butter. This cake is made of real butter. In the 1st sentence, butter is one of the ingredients. In the 2nd sentence, the cake is made entirely of butter. Quite different wouldn't you say?
@jh.g37943 күн бұрын
@@englishspeaking360 Thanks for your reply. What do you mean the cake is entirely butter??? Is it possible???? Definitely there are other ingredients, too. Besides, I have an English teaching book called "English world", in its first volume I mean "English world intro", on pages 46 and 47 , there is a passage which includes two sentences; "This jewelry is made from gold." "This jewelry is made of silver." You mean they are wrong?
@englishspeaking3603 күн бұрын
Right, there are other ingredients too. That's why you cannot say that the cake is made of butter. It is made WITH butter = it contains butter as well as other ingredients.
@englishspeaking3603 күн бұрын
English World Intro is a very basic book and the authors don't want to make English seem too complicated for beginners. That's why they simplify everything. Made of gold is right. Made from gold... could be right depending on whether the gold has undergone a significant transformation in order to be incorporated into the jewelry.

Vase is pronounced [va:s] not [veis].
@englishspeaking3603 күн бұрын
Lol! 🤪 Dude... Thanks for trying to correct me but before doing so, you should have looked up the word vase and you would have found this: vase noun /vɑːz/, /veɪs/, /veɪz/ A container made of glass, etc., used for holding cut flowers or as an attractive object. Example: A vase of flowers.
@johnlay30403 күн бұрын
@@englishspeaking360 Sorry dude, I didn't mean any offense. I looked it up, your pronunciation is American. It sounds weird to our ears. Had you been speaking with an American accent; we would have guessed.

Great explanation. In the last question, why bamboo, not bamboos? Thank you.
@englishspeaking3603 күн бұрын
Good question. The plural form of bamboo is... bamboo. Also, it is a type of wood so with don't use the plural form. The table and chairs are made of oak. (Not oaks)
