Blue Heelers are so intelligent. Even if they are just part of a mix in a dog they are so quick and easy to work with. This dog was smart not following them to far. Coyotes are no slouch in the intellect department. Their ability to lure other animals into their attack position is legendary. Great respect for both.

I have two Australian Cattle Dogs, a blue and a red, they are very loyal fearless and I have no doubt they would defend me from coyotes. My blue heeler is such a sweet girl. They both are but the Blue one is the sweetheart of the two. She was also the runt of the litter and she somehow actually weighs more than her sister who is a bulkier red heeler. When we take them to the vet, they both jump up with their front legs on our laps keeping an eye on the vet and his assistant until they realize he isn't a threat to us.

I live in Australia and have owned 3 cattle dogs. They are the toughest breed of dog and challenge bulls who weigh a ton and get the better of them. An animal of similar size is going to be childs play to a heeler. They will outwit and overpower any threat being a quick moving 50-60 pound barrel of muscle with thick fur and relentless endurance. In confrontations ive seen them beat up, flip and force the likes of rottweilers, german shepherds and pig hunting dogs who are all twice their size to submit in defeat. You especially don't wanna mess with the ones that guard on farms. Great dogs though if trained and socialised properly young

I had a mutt cattle dog who died just over a year ago at 16 years old. Got him from my dad's cousin who was moving to the city and was going to shoot him because he was moving to an apartment and didn't want the dog to have to live in the pound. Years ago when I was young and we first got the dog, my dad was walking near the treeline and the dog, JJ, can running at my dad full speed. At first my dad thought JJ was going to attack him but JJ kept running into the treeline and a few seconds later the dog dragged out a coyote that had its throat torn out. JJ was definitely a good cattle dog but when he got older he eventually had to be chained up for the rest of his life unless someone was outside to watch him because he somehow figured out where the coyote pack denned and would occasionally go on hunts to find them but he just couldn't protect himself when he got older.

Being 50% Blue, I can say one Coyote has no chance against me. I am too fast and too smart. I don't fall for the tail between the legs routine. Two coyotes I will still hold my own. I am extremely muscled already. And as an earlier poster said (and my supporting evidence): 1. They have loose skin like a Shar-Pei that protects them from penetrative injury - confirmed, I had to go back to the vet every two weeks for 2 months to make sure my microchip didn't migrate due to my BADGER like skin. My master can't get a grip either. 2. They have a thickness about their neck that functions like a Lion mane in defense - confirmed see my picture 3. They are a ridge-back breed along their spines, right? Which.. - confirmed, happens to me every time I see a squirrel. My smaller spine ridge exagerates things when my muscles contract. Looks like a mini Spinosaurus 4. Proves their bravery - confirmed, I fear nothing. Pit bulls bow down to me at the dog parks (leashes mandatory). My predecessor was my mentor. a Beagle/Corgi cross street dog with jaws of steel he never had to use after the master adopted him. He commanded all the dogs respect just by his non-chalant behavior and one look (Zoolander). They knew he was battle tested in LA as a street dog and gave him respect. Once he established his dominance , the sniffing began. 5. And they can show you more loyalty than you could ever conceive. - confirmed, but we need many human/dog friends to avoid becoming agressive and/or having separation anxiety

What a brave heeler. Coyotes often work together to lure a dog over to where they are hidden in tall grass. Then two or more coyotes can attack and kill a dog. So be protective of your dogs!

I live in Australia & have had, bred, trained & occasionally helped show blues all my life. They have truly saved my ass 4 times- once with my baby in my arms so really that’s 5 saves actually. As far as I am concerned they cannot be beat. (The dog in my pic was a result of a husky jumping my bitch & was born in my bedroom- I had to keep her!) They are so incredibly smart it’s almost scary, & absolutely loyal.♥️🐕♥️🐕♥️🐕🇦🇺✌️

Well after reading all these comments I feel that I need to put my dog story down ... But first I want to say we need to help this guy get that dog back! I have a miniature Red heeler. When I found him he was incarcerated at the pound. They had been trying to catch him for over a year in the forest. He would come down to a restaurant to get food and they would try to catch him.. after a year of trying they finally found him and caught him because he was mauled and beaten from fighting a pack of coyotes. He had been surviving through winter in the woods with bears, cougars, wolves and coyotes.. fighting for his life every with no help from anyone. They healed to him up.. But he was just to wild he could not adapt he was attacked by all the big dogs. He was so scared he started attacking all the dogs& people. He was scheduled to be put down. But as soon as I heard his story I thought that myself this poor little bastard is just like me. I said I'm taking that dog with me! That little dog is a survivor..He may be wild mean and crazy but so am I I'm taking him. They refused said he was going to be put down because he was a feral dog and he was out of control.. I said f*** you you're not putting that dog down.. I'm taking that dog out here today one way or another. And I don't care what I got to do. After two hours of threatening begging and convincing them finally they said then take that crazy f****** dog you crazy bastard but he's going to bite you.. They threw him in the truck we drove off.. He attacked me at the truck, he attacked me when we got to my house. He attacked me for 3 months. But eventually, he realized that I was not going to hurt him. I've had it for like 4 years now. He goes with me everywhere I go everyday. He's still a roudy gammy little bastard when he sees pitbulls or any dog that tries to show dominance her aggression but he loves everybody now and he hasn't bitten anybody for years.. would never know he was a feral dog before other than all the scars he has. He's pretty much scared up on his entire body like me. He's only 35 lbs with the heart of a lion
