Didn’t think I’d go through an hours long rabbit hole of informative snail videos tonight…the wine hit pretty well, I think.

There is no public parking on the south end of the island. I have a special pass that I use to access the very south of the island. I've had other people tell me they uber.

Just looking at the outline of those building (at the very beginning), they look like a line of castles with square towers.
@joang.cavanna204626 күн бұрын
Am I seeing it correctly? The body completely encased the shell? Then if it finds prey, the body covers that shell? Are moon snails the only sea creatures that make that round hole for predation? I love these videos with sea creatures! Did you know that New England fisherman once cut starfish in pieces to kill them because they were eating too many clams? (So I was taught.) Only to find out they doubled the number of starfish.
@swfbeachlifestuff24 күн бұрын
The body of the animal can swell up with seawater and it becomes that huge gooey looking thing. They are not the only snails that "drill" holes in other creatures to eat. What a fabulous story about the seastars!!

@joang.cavanna204626 күн бұрын
Wentletraps are so beautiful, delicate and elegant. I don't know how you even spot them among all the other small white pieces. Why do some look black inside? Baby and tiny seashells are just so cool. I have trouble deciding what some of the very small ones are. Thank you for putting the name up on the unusual ones. Do you know what causes the "coffee grounds" in the water? Some day, on your other channel, can you explain how to read a tide chart? That blue moon snail was gorgeous! This channel is so soothing to watch. That clam looking pointed bivalve shell with the colorful, shiny inside was amazing! Thanks for shariing!
@swfbeachlifestuff24 күн бұрын
I LOVE looking for wentletraps. Some do get a bit of gunk on the inside, so they need to be cleaned. I'm not sure what causes the coffee grounds, but they it is some sort of organic matter that wentletraps like!

Was that a piece of bone you picked up at 16:16? That was beautiful! I loved all the critters you showed. I shells/animals that were stuck look together were so cool! I am amazed at how big the big shells were - holes and all- incredible. Thanks for sharing. I always watch your other channel. First time on this one.
@swfbeachlifestuff24 күн бұрын
That piece wasn't a bone, but the inside of a seashell that had been smoothed down to just that vertical piece. It felts so good to hold! Thanks for stopping over on this channel!!!

I just had to share. I went to honeymoon Island today. Tried to get there early, but that’s a long story and it didn’t happen that way. I think I might’ve gotten all the chestnut turbins. I don’t think I left any. Lol. Found three olives, the turbines, some jingles and Venus clams. That was it and I was kind of surprised. But there was a lot of people out already so that’s probably picked over. I just said to share.
@swfbeachlifestuffАй бұрын
LOL! What is crazy is there will be more turbans the following day! I'm glad you got to experience it for yourself!

I like these 'virtual' walks, too. I feel as if I'm right there with you when I can hear the wind and the waves and your footsteps (especially as you were marching right along to get past the wall - glad your little dunking was of minor impact). I went down to 'my' beach last evening (Tues.) and found a few shells and 1 lb., 3.8 oz. of garbage, mainly glass, again. (This, after a major community beach cleanup effort on Saturday.) This brings my total since Feb. 12th to 12 lbs., 4 oz. Not trying to compete with you, just joining you!! Yay for us!!
