How could anyone be watching this tournament not know what it is. It’s been around for over 10 years. They keep tweaking it. I hate the new format and it’s importance has been diminished over the years. It’s almost like an afterthought. It’s nothing like the Super Bowl. it’s nothing like the playoffs, there’s very little intrinsic interest, the year-long race for the FedEx cup. How many times have I heard that 7228 times and they bumped the prize money but we numb to the prize money right yeah the format needs to change.

I think even if you’re a new golfer to get a professional fitting before you buy clubs. Being fitted will stop you from getting clubs that are just not right for you and also save you a lot of money in the long run.

Does the par of the course you play factor in? 2 courses I play a lot are par 70 and 71.

So what did Biden mean when he said he got his handicap down to a 6? Surely it means nothing without knowing who it was against
@GolfAscending
@GolfAscending 21 күн бұрын
lol, means he was full of crap 😂. A 6 handicap means your roughly shooting 6 over par on average. On a par 72 course he'd be shooting consistently in the upper 70's low 80's.

As a beginner player during the time I had the pleasure of playing this course (April 2nd, 2022) , here are my thoughts: 1. The employees/managers are incredibly elitist and snobby 2. When approaching the manager behind the counter to start our round, he informed us that they initiate a ridiculous, bullshit format of payment where the price is dynamic based on popular demand ("progressive pricing" they call it. To put it in words from the perspective of everybody else but the owners/managers of this course: "screw-over-the-customers pricing"). In other words, when we reserved our tee time days in advance, the price was set to a specific amount. But when it was our time to start our round, they decided to INCREASE our fee just because "demand was popular." It sounded like it would apply to us regardless if we had connections or not. Absolute elitist thievery if you ask me. And a breach of contract. If you, the consumer, makes an initial contract of agreement for form of payment with the business itself, the business, then that price should be set in stone. INSTEAD, the crooks at this course decide that they can change the price at any time for whatever reason, and they upped the price for us when we showed up. Completely immoral, unnecessary, and a total dick move from management. Screw them. What they do should be ILLEGAL. 3. Aside from how rude and crooked the management is, it's a spectacularly beautiful course. Hole 12 is just as stunning as the reviews/videos claim it is. I will always remember it. But man, that green is RELENTLESS. A lot more difficult than it looks. 4. My performance on hole 7 was my best performance on ANY hole in my short 6 year (as of 2024) golf career. I had a chip shot for birdie that was not only over a bunker, but the pin placement was so difficult, yet I chipped it perfectly enough, reading the green well enough, so that chipping it just above the top of the bunker, it would roll RIGHT INTO THE CUP I KID YOU NOT. Proudest moment of my life. 5. Hole 15 is as hard as it looks, if not, harder. I know I'm a beginner, but this was the only hole i had to skip. I had two drive attempts that ended up in the canyon, and we had an audience with the party behind us sitting in their cart watching us because the party ahead of us was playing slow (no joke, at the 18th hole, we ended up calling the clubhouse to complain about these out-of-country tourist a-holes taking their sweet time). So I said "eff it, I give up" and just let my brother and brother-in-law finish it up. 6. In general, it's such a gorgeous course. There's nothing like southern Utah on Earth. One of our favorite places to visit is Moab, because the scenery is just stunning, and this course is probably the closest you can get to that aesthetic in terms of golf courses. 6. There was a roadrunner just perched on the wooden information post for one of the holes (can't remember which), when we approached the hole to tee off, it wasn't anything super special but it was kinda a cool moment. 7. DO NOT GO DURING THE PEAK OF SUMMER. I went in April, and it was incredibly hot. Unless you love 110+ degrees Fahrenheit weather, avoid this course (or St. George in general) during the hottest summer days. 8. Overall, great experience. Take away the horrible, egotistical management, and you've got yourself a world-class course.

Why is it that home putting greens are shaped like this. A real putting green is huge, even if the shape is somewhat like this. A home green is so unrealistic with this shape unless it is extremely large. Otherwise you hardly have room to putt. Look at all the putters on the course make eighty foot putts. What fun is it tho always make 10' or less putts all the time. Eventually its will be too small. How is that worth the money?
@GolfAscending
@GolfAscending 21 күн бұрын
Very worth the money, most putts are around 10 ft. I've seen my putting improve drastically and I'm averaging a little over 1.5 putts/hole currently.

This seems like participation trophies. Im not a good golfer, but id never allow myself to take an advantage because the person im playing with has put in more work and effort to become a better golfer. This seems akin to giving every 1st grader a prize after a race or something. So if someone is an 18 handicap, what advantage do they get versus a 7 handicap?
@GolfAscending
@GolfAscending 21 күн бұрын
I think from the outside it looks like this, but it's far from taking advantage of anyone. When you play there are essentially two scores (net & gross). Players with higher handicaps know they aren't better than those with lower handicaps...however it helps you have fun and play competitively with people of different skill levels. Hope this helps!

The best analogy I've read about which tee box to play, take your honest 5 iron distance and times it by 36 or your honest driver distance and times it by 28. The total is the 18 hole yardage you should play.

You need to play the tees that give you an opportunity to hit mid irons or less into the par 4 holes. If you are constantly using a hybrid or 5 wood, move up to a shorter tee!

I have often heard that if you take your 5 iron distance and multiply it by 36, should give you your maximum yardage for the tees you should be playing.

Thank you for making this video! 4 years later, it's as relevant as ever. I have a question, though I'm not sure if you address it in later videos - what is the oldest age of clubs one should get when buying used. I've heard different advice ranging from "no more than 10" to "not older than 20". I know opinions differ, but wondering what your take is on club age?
@GolfAscending
@GolfAscending Ай бұрын
Typically no older than 10 years, as some clubs can become non conforming in competition, but most new golfers don’t care about that. Irons that are in good condition can last a long time.

Boring. If i suck i suck and inlive with it. I dont ask better chess players to play down a piece so I wont claim handicap. Nerd stuff. One of the parts of golf that is lame. Just play and be. You did not actually win with a handycap so why pretend.

Net (handicap applied score) isn't to make people think they are better...it's to help people of different skill levels compete against each other. at the end of the day all the net score tells you is who played "their best golf" that day.

The higher the handicap the less skilled the golfer. lower handicap the better the golfer. If we're talking the current president in office 😂, no chance the guy has a 6 handicap 😂. A 6 handicap would essentially mean you are shooting consistently 6 over par on 18 holes...somewhere in the 70's.

I just started going to the driving range a few months ago to practice and be ready for a course, I’ve bought my clubs from goodwill/thrift stores so far. I have aero burner 12.5 driver, top flite 3w, callaway X 5W, lancer oversize irons 5-PW, extra top flite wedge, and Wilson alignment blade putter. Combined cost under 60 dollars. Once I start playing courses I’ll look into upgrading but for now I’m focused on swinging consistently
