Hey thanks so much! Yeah it can be really tricky to learn all the pieces that make up good images. Currently I’m running the Komodo with a .71 speedbooster (essentially makes the field of view full frame), and then lens wise I’m running sigma primes for the most part. Small rig matte box with vnd. I don’t really use filters too much. I usually prefer to keep things a bit cleaner in camera and then add dirty the image up in post a bit.

color grading Red footage in Premiere Pro is a joke - the world color grades Red footage (including Hollywood movies) in Da Vinci Resolve. Otherwise you're just wasting your time. It can be done - but you can walk to the grocery store or you can drive your Tesla. I'll drive, thank you!

So so good! Are u happy with your Komodo? I can't decide between a second hand OG Komodo and a new Komodo X. But if I go with the KX I have to pay more than twice the price, so I don't know if it's worth it..

Yeah! Great question. I’ve bounced between that myself. The main differentiation for me was the frame rates. I’ve stayed with my OG so far because I tend not to use high frame rates. So, to your point, it’s almost 2X the price for a features I wouldn’t use regularly. However if you tend to shoot really high frame rates, I think it would be worth the jump.

I am a wildlife cinematographer and DP based in Florida, and seeing you holding a RED camera on the streets of New York resembles in my opinion any time I’ve held a camera in front of an 8 foot alligator or a lion with cubs, dangerous 🤣 Funny enough, here I am watching your video because I’m flying there tomorrow just to hold my Dragon DSMC2 and walk around the streets of New York! Wish me luck.

This is great! I’m considering switching from the c70 and Blackmagic but the black shading has me worried. I switch from 24 to 60fps constantly. Do you need to black shade every time you change recording frame rates?

Nice looking shots. Particularly love the contrast and dynamic range you've captured in many of your shots and your grading choices. Nice work. Also thanks for posting this video. Trying to decide whether to pick up a use OG Komodo or save my pennies for longer and get the Komodo X. Seeing this 50 fps footage was helpful.

Hello i have a question 😢 why in my Red Raven 4.5K when i shoot on 4.5K 24/25/30/60 whatever and in ProRes setting i can choose only 2K résolution 😅 i have 4.5K pic in a 2K résolution scale 😢 impossible to have 4K resolution in prores sitting / only 2K ( 422 / 422 hq ) i want do 4K video in 4k scale 😢 Thanks

Hey! I haven’t actually gotten my hands on a raven before. So this is just my best guess. I am assuming that it is because it downsampling to prores. Same thing happens with the Komodo but from 6K. You can only shoot 4K prores max, you can’t actually shoot the full 6K unless you are in raw. I am assuming it’s just a scaled down version of this? I could totally be wrong though. Just my best guess!

I have a request for some Normal average level footage; Like MQ-4K-24fps-day light- ProRes 444. Or even some LQ-2K 30fps-TV style ProRes. The kind of Stuff that doesn’t require a lot of post processing, and is light on the file size… thank you.

All shot handheld. I think of if I upgrade it will be to a v-raptor for the built in ND’s and some of the other pro features. For now the Komodo is still doing everything I need it to.

I actually just used the mini 3 pro for this one. But usually I am using the mavic 2 pro, haven’t upgraded to the 3 yet.

@@ramsesm yeah Lake Louis has a strict no fly policy. All the drone footage was captured around Golden and at a campsite we stayed at about 20 minutes out from Lake Louis.

@@mateoallen challenge is that is not the lake Louise area, the whole region is a national park (take off/landing and no over flights). The closest legal point would be highway 95 which is an hour away. Camp would also be within park boundaries so, unfortunately an illegal flight. Nice cool video, but the production did not comply with federal laws 🫤

@@ramsesm The campsite we stayed at was privately owned and I got permission from the staff to fly using a drone under 250g. As far as I am aware, private property is legal to fly within so long as permission is granted and you are not within controlled airspace. As far as my knowledge goes from getting my drone pilot licence. Those are the laws within Canada currently. Not totally sure the nuance of if that property is surround by a national park. I would assume that laws would only apply above the park itself and not of above the private property. Same goes for golden we had permission to fly from the venue staff on the mountain. If I am wrong, than it’s an honest mistake. But to the best of my knowledge, all flights complied with federal drone laws articulated by transport Canada.

Hi Mateo, I wonder if u can help me please? when I want to color grade red footage in Davinci using a Mac m2, every export looks desaturated! but when I use the settings that all use here in KZfaq to fix that, the R3D RAW immediately looks like rec709 (it looks the same, but when I compare, they are not the same) without applying the color space transform using the official red luts. PS: The video was incredible!!!!

This looks great! Funny enough I am searching for a 35mm to use with my Komodo as well since I primarily do weddings and although the sigma 24-70 is great I still prefer a prime lol. I absolutely love the shot of her standing in front of the water though absolutely killer shot!
