I have been to Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Slovakia, Holland, Wales, Scotland, Jersey....the German people were the most friendly and welcoming I have ever met, followed by the Slovakians..... Italians were the worst!

We didn't stay in many hotels when we spent the summer of 1973 in Europe, but many looked like this, without the ocean view. The one in London, the Douglas Hotel in Westminster was an exception. By American standards, it was tiny, and the rooms didn't have bathrooms which was pretty common then. But, it was at least clean and relatively modern for it's day.

I first heard Henning on Radio 4 one Saturday afternoon. He was doing a comedy spot under the guise where he helps the British with their problems. Henning's Saturday Surgery or SS as it was abbreviated to. Comedy right from the off.

Well, the Germans abolished their monarchy. And things worked out pretty well. Eventually. After a bit of a false start. (Come to think of it, the Italians never abolished theirs. The ruling government of the 30's and 40's just side-stepped them and made them irrelevant. When they finally got rid in 1947, things got better). On that basis... we get rid of ours on the German model of 1919. Do we have to put up with President and National Leader Farage for a decade or two?
