I’m 2 months in to drumming at an older age lol. I just bought a 7 pc Tama SuperStar classic. And believe me- the Yammie was a close second. Is the Vision discontinued? The 2 comparative are the decade and export. Any way--- in my newness to drumming I’m thinking a double pedal would be great to just get the left foot going as I start out the gate. And as I consider that- I’m thinking ya know what… at that price I could just add an entire extra kit, but mixed. I think birch plus my maple would be excellent. Anyone want to chime in on that? The only other thought is I might as well get just a 3pc with 24” kick. That for size difference also less duplicating the toms and snare. Anyone to chime in would be great. Great video man. Rock on!

Mercy that was a nice groove! I found that same snare last year on sale for only $99. It has became one of my favorite snares.

Hey! First, great review and sound test. I'm also in a mood to maybe share my experience gigging with Yamaha Stage Custom and other kits, that I'm gonna compare them to. Keep in mind that the kits I recommend below are the kits I also played many times irl. Yamaha Stage Customs win in terms of hardware, universal sound and usability. The sound is pretty sharp and will sound good in smaller spaces, but incredible on stages and bigger venues. Every drum on the kit sounds exceptional, when the stock heads are replaced. With stock heads, kit sounds very average with a lot of boomyness and useless warmth. Replacing stock heads is a must with this kit! At this price point however, I think there are objectively better options, if you're looking at sound. However if you're looking for best hardware, go with Stage Customs! Pearl Decades are an amazing option when it comes to versatility and sound. They are equiped with one of the best tom mounting systems at this price point and maple shells which are quite outstanding for the price. In my opinion, great kit, amazing projection and in my opinion, they just sound way bigger and smoother than Yamaha Stage Custom. Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz. Way cheaper and way smaller (it comes without hardware). Don't let the size fool you tho! I think that this kit sounds the best. I prefer it to Stage Customs and I prefer it to Decades... Hardware is worse when comparing to Pearls or Yamahas, but it's still amazing and you can definetly count on it, it'll never leave you hanging. It's shell is 7ply Mahogany which I think it sounds great and kind of way warmer and cozyer. I like how it sounds on stages and I really like them way more in clubs and pubs. In clubs they sound like you're playing on a way more expensive kit!

Thanks for doing this video! Great job working around the kits and showing what they can do. I own a Pearl Vision set with double bass drums and I use Evans EC2S clears on the toms, Evans EMAD2 clear on the kick and Evans 500 clear reso/ Power Center/ Reverse dot batter on the snare. I noticed the comment about the toms moving around, I haven't ever had mine move on me. Pearl equipment holds very tight and secure. Even when I'm beating the hell out of the skins playing speed metal type rhythms. I absolutely love playing my kit, but must say the Yamaha is the trend-setter. It has been around forever and sounds great. Hope to see you doing more videos soon. Thank you again for the great comparison video!!

This would be a much better comparison if they were also tuned the same, with the same heads and treatment However, with the current set up, I would choose the Pearl. The toms have a fuller tone and resonant sound

Wow! fantastic playing! And I can't believe I'm gonna say this, cuz I really like my Stage Custom's, but I think the Pearl Vision's toms just had a little something that the Yamaha's didn't. It was really noticeable on the 12 inch toms between the two. Just a touch more sustain and bite. Thanks for the great vid!

Hi Adrian.

Reading reviews for a similar low cost gooseneck condenser - and the reviews really complained about the gooseneck moving (and in their case the clamp not holding on the rim very well.) With that said, this seems to sound decent. Thanks for the demo, of which there appear to be few. :)

The Pearls sound lower n fatter but if they have 2 plys that's why. I don't usually buy midgrade kits but I bought a Stage Custom.

The Yamaha sounds more like a steel snare than the metal Pearl. The Yamaha will be better for jazz. I like a nice ring from a snare. That generally gets lost when the band kicks in and you're left with a clearer snare tone. I've always gone with that idea.
