I just found your channel and started binge watching. I couldn't figure out why this amp has only 2 filter caps. The smarties at Technics used one transformer for the positive rail and the one for the negative. Nice vids.. keep em coming.. thx

If you were to recommend among the HK 770, the Sanyo P55, and the Technics SE-A7 - power output aside - which do you consider the most restoration friendly and which did you like the most when all was done? Thanks!

Definitely the SE-A7. It’s really a wonderful sounding and performing amplifier. I still use one in my reference system to this day. The hk770 is dead simple and incredibly easy to service, but the SE-A7 is still fairly straightforward.

Wow with the previous guy's solder. I'm a million miles from a professional tech but wow. Would've measured and kept those Elna Silmic II.

Great! Love the power cable and interconnects... Wiring looms - use thread to bind, looks wonderful, zip ties are very "industrial". I get a lot of grief for soldering and not crimping, but you've proved a point here. Testing - use a reactive load (speaker coil), this makes a difference compared to straight resistive, or at least a range of resistances - 2-16ohm. These older amps are wonderful and respect to the owner. Loved watching this, well done!

I sold audio gear in the 70's and 80's. I owned a Vfet amp and have to say they were some of the sweetest most open sounding amps that ever came around. I worked for a dealer that sold Ohm speakers and in the mid to late 70's was their west region sales rep. Those Sony VFet amps sure were sweet. It was so satisfying to watch your restoration.

Hi, I have a 725 hooked up to a 770; when i turn ON the 770, the red power light comes on, but none of the indicator LED's do not turn on. I purchased brand new RCA's just to be sure, but still no dice. I bought the pair from an ebay seller and he swears up and down that it "was working".... Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I am having a headache watching your video as you move around quickly while holding each circuit board to show the components that possibly needs replacing. It would be better if you keep the circuit boards on the table then slowly move the camera along the components including the opposite soldered board side as you explain the possible faulty parts and your suggested solutions to restore vintage stereo. Your video presentation is very informative and Love learning from your presentation.

Hi, I’ve just come across your youtube on the Sansui AU717 amplifier restoration. I live in the UK. I take it the AU710 is the same as the AU717 due to it looks identical or was the AU717 made for the American market. Are the components available to buy online. I haven’t switched it on for years, but when i did, it sounds great. I am worried now if i switch it on i might do damage to my speakers or the amplifier.

Great videos, really appreciated the longer format restorations, I also repair and restore vintage audio equipment next to my regular job although I rarely see hign end masterpieces like this one and it's preamp companion on my bench. Thanks for showing your methods and approach to problems, used tools and circuit modifications. Looking forward to the next one!

Thank you for taking the time to do this restoration and capture it on video, and share it with the rest of the world. I have owned many of the Kenwood L-series pre amps and amps and as a person who does hobby restoration, I ran into the same issues in trying to restore my MKI L07C... the traces lifted and I admitted defeat and ended up scrapping the unit. Damn shame because I got so many years (decades actually) of enjoyment. I also ran into the oscillation issues with the L07MII amps in where I immediately put them up for sale and reverted back to the MKI amps. Even with these issues, they are just such quality pieces of gear and they provide such a beautiful sound. Thinking back I want to say I've gotten about 30+ years of enjoyment out of them before parting ways and going with <somewhat> newer equipment. I ended up replacing the L07C with a Sony TA-E88 which I feel is superior, but still the Kenwood stuff is just great. Thanks again for the video and hard work, it shows!

I have had many, and I mean many of these amplifiers... they are fantastic. Unfortunately, the MMII are the worst of the bunch given their defects.... but its great to see that you have come up with a solution for servicing and repairing them. This looks better than new. Over the years the MKI amps were the ones I held onto the longest because they did not suffer from these defects. I was fortunate enough to also own several L09M amplifiers which were built like tanks, but I eventually sold them as they did not perform well at low impedances. L07/09 are absolutely fantastic amps though, if only there were more qualified/skilled technicians out there capable of servicing them..... and enough people with fat enough wallets willing to pay. Really great work though, impressive!
