With WW1 , my goto tv series was the british RAF series "Wings" (on youtube love it)
@Jackdaw53 күн бұрын
It was about the RFC - the Royal Flying Corps, which was part of the army. The RAF was formed in April 1918. 'Wings' was indeed a great series.

Ian Toll's book, Six Frigates, covers the naval aspects of the War of 1812 really well, both in open sea (the six commissioned frigates of the title) and the war on the Great Lakes. And it's a really great read by a natural storyteller.

An interesting topic here Rough. In my early days at college I wrote a lengthy research paper on the War of 1812. I've had my eye on this game and with my switch to getting more solitaire games I have to have this one on my list. I should be receiving I, Napoleon in the mail today. Are you putting out another Skies Above Britain video this week Rough?

These are good videos to what appears to be an extremely unchallenging game. The Germans never send anything and if it does get through they apparently cannot drop a bomb on target. This isnt the Battle of Britain its the airshow over Britain. lol. I ordered this game before watching all the videos because it seemed awesome, kinda regretting that now.

It's been a while since I played it - it was a shorter scenario if I remember so maybe not.

26:06 - Vehicles may freely enter Building hexes, as they are not actually entering the Buildings themselves, but are in the Alleyways between the Buildings. Therefore, any vehicle located in a Building hex is actually occupying Alley type terrain.

Enjoyed the show - just caught up with the rest. I find youtube videos indispensable when learning a new game. I will watch a play through (or part thereof) as well as reading the rules (this takes several sessions and I can't do it in one sit down) and then set the game up. Most of the time, whilst I am pushing stuff around, I will hit a block which the rulebook doesn't answer (or is not referenced easily). Then it is to BGG, Consimworld or a youtube video to try to and crack the code. Once I have (hopefully) found a solution I will go back to the rulebook to see if I have been an idiot or to exclaim "why isn't that explained?" (or similar). This happens so often that it seems to me that a lot of games are not properly tested with new players. A big frustration is (for example) that the rules for set up, for example, state "place chaos counters in zone 1"...... my response is "what is a chaos counter?"..... the rulebook may have this explained on page 17 with no index cross reference........... Hardly any rulebooks have a section upfront which explain all the components with their function (most have some explained but leave other components to be explained somewhere later in the book)
@RoughSwordsmanWargamer14 күн бұрын
Hi Dave, my frustration is that I find some rule book's sequence of play rattle on without me having any idea what they are talking about. Only becomes clearer when I read the rest of the rules and go back and re-read the SOP!
@Dangerous27Dave14 күн бұрын
@@RoughSwordsmanWargamer Yeah - the general principle should be that any term, component or phrase should be explained before it is used or referenced in the rules; I don't want to go looking for an explanation later in the rules. The explanation doesn't have to be full and complete but it should be enough to explain what is being referenced in the rules at that point.
