This is why I hate Bandung so much. I lived there for 18 years and I’m glad I moved out of the city. It’s so crowded and you absolutely need to drive everywhere. Traffic jams can be even worse than Jakarta. It’s faster to go from Bandung to Jakarta via whoosh than from Gede Bage to Dago. Tegalluar station actually helped me a lot since my family lives only 5-10min from there though 😁

As a current Bandung Resident who sometimes come to Jakarta, I had been on the Whoosh, and to be honest it's pretty good for a 30 minute trip between Halim and Padalarang. Actually a lot of Bandung residents was hoping that the line would open up a station around the Miko Mall at Kopo, Southern Bandung City, as that spot is literally inside Bandung City limits. Whoosh tickets actually can go as low as 150-175 and as high as 300 depending on the time and what day. NOW FOR THE BANDUNG TRANSPORT THING. Actually there's a lot been going regarding the Transit System in Bandung CIty, but the hottest topic now is BANDUNG WILL SOON HAVE A BRT SYSTEM. So basically Bandung is technically an Angkot city in general as the Trans Metro Pasundan and Trans Metro Bandung Buses mostly run through to city center connecting several areas in the city center and the southern areas all the way to Bandung Regency's northern area, with some services actually run all the way to Padalarang in West Bandung Regency and to Dago Bus Terminal in northern Bandung City, and also there's a Damri Local Service connecting Leuwipanjang Bus Terminal in the south and Ledeng Bus Terminal (near Lembang) but only 2 buses operate a day, WTF IS THAT. And recently the talks regarding building a BRT System has actually been finalized by the Provincial Government of West Java with a lot info going on the Transport for Bandung Forum. So some roads in Bandung City will have dedicated bus lanes with mostly running east to west with the BRT Service will go as far from Padalarang, West Bandung to Jatinangor, Sumedang. The Cicaheum Bus Terminal in eastern Bandung which serves intercity buses heading east will cease operation and become a BRT Depo, with the intercity buses moving to Leuwipanjang. Some Angkot lines are also gonna be rerouted to serve as BRT Feeders, which I recount there's already 3 angkot lines getting ready to be rerouted. The current Trans Metro Pasundan which is technically under the Minister of Transportation is currently being in a process of handover to the West Java Transportation Department, as the BRT will span to 2 cities (Bandung, Cimahi) and 3 regencies (West Bandung, Bandung, Sumedang). The BRT System will have services both in dedicated lanes and conventional streets with routes being mostly East-West and North-South (YES THERE WILL BE BRT SERVICES TO LEMBANG AS WELL). The project WILL BE DONE as it's actually being financed by the World Bank and any delays might cause a hefty fine for the government. So it's expected that Bus Services in the Bandung Region will expand in the upcoming years with dedicated lines going live at around 2025. Now for the trains, Greater Bandung Commuterline is actually getting an upgrade as well but the pace is slow. So currently service goes between Purwakarta and Garut, with the Padalarang-Cicalengka section having the most service with a few services to Purwakarta and Garut. So currently what they're doing now is doubling-tracking the Kiaracondong-Cicalengka section and then start electrifying the Padalarang-Cicalengka section. I wish they would just electrify all the way from Purwakarta to Garut but I guess they need to double-track to Garut first. There's also something I heard about extending the Commuterline from Cicalengka to Kertajati and all the way to West Java International Airport so they could run Airport trains to Kertajati (as a lot of Bandung residents doesn't like to fly from Kertajati because it's too far away and prefer Soekarno-Hatta instead), and it may also be a HSR-Airport feeder as well as the Whoosh is planned to pass through Kertajati and have a stop there.

I'm interested in trying it out, next time I have a business trip to Bandung, assuming the economy class really IS 150k. Anything more than that I would need to cover the difference on my own, especially since I'd be using gojek for the entire stay there (assuming the on site team was using the motorbike). I think there's some value in it, but it competes with a lot of alternatives that people are used to. It'd take people whose needs aren't that strict for it to make sense. Personally though, I'd love for more Sumatra-Java interconnectivity projects over more Java interconnection but it is what it is.

If they actually extend the route to central-east java then it might actually be useful. Because now it barely saves you time and/or money. First, you have to get to Halim 40 minutes before departure, second, you kinda sit around on the train for 15 minutes after they shut the gate before the train departs, then, you have to take the feeder which squishes 8-cars of people into a tiny 4 car diesel train. I feel like the whoosh is too advanced for the infrastructure around it

if i remember correctly there currently are 3 running bus networks in bandung. the newer one, Trans Metro Pasundan, the older one, Trans Metro Bandung, and also whatever DAMRI is doing. lots of angkot routes but they are very messy the only electric line is TMP 4. bandung has no electric rail at all (and thus no real commuter line), even the whoosh feeder line is diesel i have taken multiple carless trips to jakarta. now with whoosh it's even better. but once i am back at bandung i am forced to take private transportation. where my house is there are no transit at all for 30 minutes. after that it's angkot only

Messy angkot routes that don't even have line numbers, at least Jabodetabek angkots have codes like R19 (Karawaci - Gading). The other 2 bus networks in Bandung doesn't have bus tracking I think, doesn't appear in Mitra Darat.

PT KCIC should've work on the Padalarang - Cicalengka DT and Upgrading Project too, because what i heard about the project and its relation to the KCIC is that, the double-tracking of Greater Bandung railway would complete at the same time as Whoosh opening, but what do we have now? Even after Cicalengka disaster, the DT project wasn't speeding up. And no, the money for DT isn't slashed for Whoosh, but instead it was RAISED everytime DJKA need it. I blame DJKA more on the slow progress of Bandung line upgrade tbh. Concerning Bandung tho, honestly i have no hope for them, even for BRT they have to begged to the central Government to build them one

The only problem here with the whoosh based on my experience: - the ticket of upcoming departure will be closed (we can't buy it anymore) around 30-15 minutes before departure, which contradicts the definition of whoosh itself (imagine if we suddenly have plan/urgency to go to jkt/bandung in 15 minutes and we coincidentally nearby the station, we can't buy the closest departure ticket and need to wait until the next departure). This scenario is real coz i have one experience about it (i arrived from airport -> manggarai -> halim 15 minutes before departure and i can't buy the ticket anymore even though i'm not late and at the station already, and I need to wait for the next 1 hour which is wasting my time and contradicts the meaning of whoosh itself)

5:05 The grave sins of Bandung really need to be called again and again. Even when they announced that they'll make some BRT lines, it was in fact, almost a lie, since only a mere routes will be given bus lanes. The Greater Bandung Commuter Line system, that me and my friends arguably called the best commuter system in Bandung, is famous for its weird timing, they can be late for a lot of time, yet sometimes they depart some 1-2 minutes before the actual departing times, not to mention they use a lot of carriages produced in 1965-1966, which is like damn old. Not to mention they only have one main line that only connect west and eastern part of Greater Bandung, ignoring the north and southern part of it like Lembang, Banjaran, Dayeuhkolot, Soreang, Ciwidey, and Majalaya. Well, KAI used to have branchlines in Greater Bandung, one to Soreang-Ciwidey and one to Jatinangor-Tanjungsari, sadly in 1970s or 80s (i kinda forgor) they were closed and now unless by evicting many many of houses, it was a mere wet dream to reactivate those lines.

I was in Jakarta for work earlier this year and we took the Whoosh to go on a day trip to Bandung and then beyond Lembang to visit the crater and the hot springs. You're absolutely spot on about what I felt about Jakarta in contrast to Bandung. Jakarta is a vast city with a thriving public transit system (though still inadequate in ways but very useful and functional) whereas Bandung is a trafficky mess all day. We took the Bandung feeder from Padalarang and then arranged private transport to get to our destination. The entire time from our Hotel in Jakarta to Bandung station via cab, Whoosh, and feeder train took us about 1 hour 15 minutes. But the drive from Bandung to the hot springs through the city traffic took us nearly 2.5 hours (twice the time for 1/4th the distance of the first leg). Thankfully, it eased a little bit in the evening and we were back in Padalarang to catch the return service in about 2 hours. But I feel like my thoughts are totally validated by your assessment that Bandung is perhaps is on a high speed rail network earlier than it should have been given they have their own internal transit issues to solve first.
@fedora.q
@fedora.q 2 күн бұрын
while i usually am a supporter for high speed rail unconditionally, priorities of the government with transit-connecting have definitely got to be criticized in this instance. it is just horrendous planning to connect two major cities with high speed rail *before* properly establishing a good, rail-based public transit system in the latter city. it just leads to immense bottleneck and a turnoff for potential riders, not to mention not properly alleviating the outrageously car-centric city planning that bandung currently suffers from

The part where you mentioned the lack of intermode transit in Bandung is ubiquitous in other large Indonesian cities, politicans turn their backs around and mention transit only if it can boost their approval ratings, one such case is Eri Cahyadi, the mayor of surabaya. During his first few years of office he "promised" to build an MRT/LRT line in surabaya, and guess what? Local elections are coming in 3 months and he failed to do so out of lack of funding saying "MRT will not be a solution to surabaya's traffic". It really boils down to political will, I agree that building rapid rail transit is soo expensive but even for city busses, surabaya and bandung still fail to make a proper bus system. Surabaya and bandung alone is more than able to secure funding purely from APBD for a BRT line, but till now proper urban transit in other big cities are just a dream.. p.s, anyways, jokowi is pushing for ART to be the new form of public transportation in Indonesia, just for note ART hasn't even been shipped and tested in Indonesia before the statement was made, also ARTs are considered as busses (in china atleast), they have their own license plates and share same legalities as cars and busses instead of trains. just to remind you, developing chinese cities are building more trams (with segregated tracks from roads) than ARTs. personally id rather choose trams than wannabe bus-train hybrids

As a Bandung Raya citizen and regular user of TMP and "commuter" Bandung Raya train, you Jakartans are so lucky with the amount of public transport services. Yes if you are from other city and plan to visit Bandung, good luck with the public transport here. Unbelievably long headway (10-60 minutes...., sometimes more), lack of corridor, and services terminated around 8-9pm, this services is basically almost useless. This level of services is the definition of dog shit in metropolitan standard. As much as I hate the traffic due to plat B vehicles, unfortunately there is no sensible option other than using your own vehicle if you want to visit Bandung and not stranded at the station :) so good luck.

Thanks for the video Shindo. I also agree that transit to Ciwidey/Lembang is absolutely imperative if we want to increase Whoosh ridership, or just improve Bandung tourism (and congestion) in general. Trolleybuses (or even regular buses at this point 😂) may be a nice option for this. Also, I heard there has been several talks to reinstate the Ciwidey rail section and a possible electrification of the Bandung Raya Commuter Rail, but I doubt that will happen in the next 5 years 😂😂 Also, do you have plans to discuss rail-based gated communities like Metland Cibitung (and planned ones like Tigaraksa Pomodoro and Hiera BSD)? I think they are worth looking into, because they've got the "facilitate people to easy-access transit for work/to Jakarta" down, but seemingly not within the community itself - seems like the community is still pretty car centric, unfortunately - but I think we all know car-centrism is a deep-rooted terrible thinking pattern us Indonesians as a whole need to fix. The vacation purpose for many passengers who use the high-speed train is really on point. Like you said, most people who visit Bandung are more likely to visit nature sight place like Lembang, not mall which Jakarta already have so many of it. This apply in reverse with Bandung citizen who are visiting Jakarta. Apparently, there are more Bandung people who use this train rather than Jakarta people. They want to visit malls in Jakarta which, may not a rare thing in Bandung too, are just so many in Jakarta. Also, with direct access of rapid transit in Halim Station, this might be the factor of why there are more people who took the train from Bandung than Jakarta. People from Bandung can take their car to the Padalarang station, took the train, and took whatever transit system in Jakarta. This does not happen with people from Jakarta where they might have many choices to go to the Halim station, they don't have many options to go to many places in Bandung because, well, they leave their car in Halim station and Bandung public transport is awful so they can't go anywhere unless they use online taxi which is expensive.

Already tried intercity train to bandung (It's Argo Papandayan btw) and Whoosh to Halim back in may, i've got to said that: What you said on Whoosh are like jet airplane is really true, i remember that during the 300km/h speed above, my body was felt backward kinda like V1 in airplane but it's on land instead of the air and it's really fast too it just taking 45 minutes from padalarang to halim compared to 2.5 hours on Gambir to Bandung, The plus side on Argo Papandayan intercity trains beside the cheaper price (150K vs whoosh 250K) are the views, my god the train views is amazing i even see the whoosh tracks in between mountains. After all what i can see atleast is that whoosh is build not to replacing the current intercity trains, instead is build to coexist/intergrating with the current mode system (just like MRT/LRT Jakarta with TransJakarta) so people can get more travelling choices instead of relying on only one mode (which cause congestions). Does who values time and speed can get into Whoosh while does who values budget can get into intercity trains/AKAP Buses.
