This game had so much potential and was asounding how the rules from the classic tabletop got covered with the mage knights click rules. I still think to this day, that the dial bases are genious and think similar bases would be really cool in classic battletech to set up the movement modes and the modfiers for example on the miniature itself. But as you mentioned the loopholes in the rules where pretty bad - the charge being the only way to move and attack felt weird. Most of the time people just did not engage since you had to be the one that runs into the enemys gun range - and after a hit your stats would be bad so you basically lost right there unless you got a charge of . Also the mechs where to expensive points whise if i remember right - all the cool ones where like 280/300 points and then suffered from the mentioned problem that you got shot down so hard that putting a lot of points into one unit was bad - therefore a lot of infantry and hoverbikes and stuff got played. With the second set and the tank drop mechanic there where some tanks that suddenly outgunned everything and they now had a way to move and attack .... so nobody played mechs anymore.... in a game called mechwarrior..... Then of course the collectible aspect that did not really work since there was almost no synergy between units - if you had a tank at 60 cost with 8 attack and one with 7 .... only the one unit was relevant. the other stuff gathered dust and in contrast to cards that you can store pretty easy.... you had tons of unuseable plastic laying around. And also of course the cost. while 10 dollar for 5 prepainted miniatures is fine it gets prohibitiv if you need to buy booster on booster to pray to get the right units. I still ove this game in general because wizkids had the guts to try something new and where pretty creative. The franchise would also work pretty well for this game since the combined arms and tons of units where really cool. Some more tweaks with the rules - more synergy and less filler units and i think this could have been a huge success.

Can the devs not make anything but Alpha Strike like rules?

To make vehicles slightly less pathetic I would use the following house rules. 1. Each Damage Cluster is rolled separately. 2. If they fail a Destruction check instead of being destroyed they just take an additional point of Degradation (So 2 in most cases or 3 for Infantry facing Anti-Infantry weaponry). 3. AMS: Any Battlefield Support Asset with the Crit-Seeking or Indirect Fire special ability attacking a unit with AMS reduces the value of all of it's damage clusters by 1. For Mechs this consumes 1 volley of AMS ammo.

The devs stated that the whole idea of the new rules for BS/tanks/hovercrafts/etc. is that they don't take the spotlight from the mechs. They are supposed to support your mechs, that's why they might feel under-powered compared to the original total warfare rules.

Unfortunate that battle armor are useless under these rules, since they're forced to move first, so will pretty much never be able to get on top of a mech.

Do all the new cards and rules also have support for Alphastrike or is it all Battletech exclusive?

Instead of being careful with the stars, you can also just put white paint on a toothbrush and flick it onto the model. Add a couple larger stars on the blue part manually, and you get a very natural distrbution of specks.

Painting your museum scale TimberWolf in Kell hounds colors is lore accurate. After Wolf In Exile set up base on Arc Royal the Kell’s were well equipped by the Wolves with clan tech.

I want to address the Cicada. While the stock version from 3025 is not a good mech, it's not a contender for "worst mech ever" the way that the Urbanmech and Charger are. And once it gets to 3050 and Star League tech becomes available, there's a proliferation of fairly good Cicada variants, though most of them aren't terribly common due to being primarily limited to the Free Worlds League.
