I can imagine getting tipsy on punch and whirling around a ballroom in the arms of a stunning young man. Oh, this is heaven!

Cortot's pianism and his use of a more 19c-style French piano helps anchor this in a different sound world.

Perfection in my opinion. Especially the 3rd movement tempo, which is often played too fast. Such a beautiful sonata

Thank you for this wonderful insight of a performance. Bruno Schrecker used to say the finale 'doesn't quite work.' He never said anything like this about anything else. Perhaps Beethoven should have broken out of the variations strait jacket with a coda; this would not have been unprecedented. It just shows the really amazing thing about these composers was they WERE human, not divine, not taking down dictation.

I swear when listening to this music some part of me dies and goes straight to heaven where I linger in a state of pure bliss! Yes, the orchestra is perfect BUT Heifetz is nothing less than TRANSCENDENT! He's at his most exciting, tender, sensitive and glorious in this one piece. God bless him, God love him, God keep him. Thank you Master Heifetz.

I love this performance. Kreisler's tone is so varied and nuanced that each note is almost a universe in and of itself. His sense of phrasing is long like the singers of those days. His ideas for the piece are grand, not finicky. It's like Hofmann's playing of Beethoven's 4th. So logical. The great players from that time (early C20) made music bigger rather than smaller. Thank you for posting this great performance!

Allegro con brio no es lo mismo que presto o prestisimo, que es el tempo en esta grabación. Por otra parte, se percibe un claro desequilibrio: Heifetz destaca a un nivel superior. La grabación es, además, bastante deficiente

Great artistry. I don't know any pianist today who plays like Alfred Cortot played. His style is very insightful and intensely musical, idiosyncratic and probably unique. One feels that sometimes his feelings mastered him, to the extent that he sometimes missed notes. I love listening to his performances. Thibaud is also a master. His slurring from one note to another to emphasise feeling was a pre-war style. It fits this music perfectly.
