Hi. Tfs! I have a question that is not related to the planner. I saw one of your videos about the spanish curriculum but did you do another video about your after thoughts? If so, can your link that video? Thanks again.
@AutumnRomano10 сағат бұрын
Hi! I have not done an updated video about the Spanish curriculum. I like it and think it's super approachable for someone like me who knows very little Spanish to learn with my kids as I teach them. The lessons are not quick and life is super busy right now so we have taken a break from the curriculum. I plan for us to start using it again in the fall though because it's very good! I would still recommend it, but I will update more once we have used it more.

After using this for a year, do you think the 7x9 was a good size or would you size up to the letter size? I’m trying to decide between sizes for our upcoming homeschool year.

I purchased it again in the 7x9 size and that video will actually be on my channel this Thursday! I loved it in this size, but I am only writing out plans for one child at the moment. Very true! And I'm coming from previously teaching from a phonics curriculum that specifically taught "am" and "an" as nasal sounds so that definitely influences my opinion. My daughter has learned to like it. ☺️ We just tend to skip/substitute some portions.

I’m in Missouri and starting at age 7 we have to track 1000 hours of school. I think 600 hours for core subjects and 400 for others. We have from July 1st to June 30th to complete the hours. But we don’t have to show or prove to anyone our hours. But it’s good to have a good log in case there’s any legal issues and you’re taken to court.

@AutumnRomanoАй бұрын
I talked more about it in my end of year review video, but we took a break from these books due to initial frustration with the phonics practice ahead of the stories that led to an unfortunate plummet in my daughter's confidence. After using a research-based reading program and building her confidence, I reintroduced these books and she loves them. We don't do the phonics practice in the beginning of the books anymore (my daughter's personal preference), but just use the books to practice reading after I have explicitly taught the phonics skills through the reading curriculum we use. She did not like the activities that went along with the books so we don't do those either. I think the books are great and I would still recommend them alongside a research-based reading curriculum. She recently finished set one and has started reading through the poetry book.

I type the name of the country followed by "flag coloring" into Google and then look for the Crayola page. Sometimes I'll use the Super Coloring website page if that comes up in my search. I’m curious how you teach your daughters to hold a pencil correctly for handwriting? (As opposed to a fist like when they are starting out). I’m struggling with that for my 2.5yr old and not sure how to do it! Any advice?
@AutumnRomano2 ай бұрын
I let my daughter grip with her fist for a while. I also let her use playdough (shaping letters and other things) as well as manipulatives and tools (tweezers, droppers, etc) to strengthen her fine motor skills before she used a pencil. When she was ready though I used these (amzn.to/3VivOTS) pencil grips on these pencils (amzn.to/3USlQah) to help her use the tripod grasp. Eventually she no longer needed the grip support and we also moved to regular sized pencils. I hope that helps!!

Your videos have been my absolute favorite lately. We will be utilizing a lot of the same curriculum you used for your daughter’s kindergarten curriculum. Currently researching more about Eureka, but it is a little overwhelming. We also purchased Pinwheels based off your recommendation and all of the material was also overwhelming at first, but we are just rolling with it and so far so good! I just wanted to let you know I appreciate you and the time you take to make these videos :)

That really means so much! I love that Eureka is free, but I can understand it being overwhelming, for sure. The embarc.online website helps me a ton, but it also helps that I already used the curriculum when I taught in the classroom so I'm familiar with it. Pinwheels is definitely A LOT of setup. I was hesitant to use it, but am soooo glad that it has worked so well for us. I hope that the curriculum works well for you, but if not, I hope that you find something that fits great with your family!! ❤️

@@AutumnRomano I love that Pinwheels is all encompassing! I was torn between Pinwheels, Logic of English, and All About Reading. What I decided is to just buy the Logic of English game book to use in combination with Pinwheels to add a little more fun. Do you have any plans/ ideas for what you will transition to after your daughter completes Year Two of Pinwheels? My uncertainty about what we would use following was the only reason I was hesitant about choosing Pinwheels. All About Reading felt like the safer option, but after much research and emailing with the ladies at RIL it was evident that Pinwheels creates a stronger foundation. It’s crazy to me that Pinwheels is such a hidden gem on this platform!
@AutumnRomano2 ай бұрын
@@kristensantos11 I may continue with RIL and do Wand. I've looked through it and it seems like the right fit. I haven't fully decided yet though. And, yes, it definitely is a hidden gem. I think that the initial setup can scare people off though. I completely understand wanting to get something that is printed nicely and ready to go!

New Zealander here. We send a homeschool exemption to the ministry of education, and then there are basically no regulations at all. We arent required to do a certain number of hours, subjects, turn in work etc, my kids don't have to do yearly tests - they just leave you to teach what you want, how you want. In the exemption you explain how you plan to teach things as well as they would in school. ( or words to that effect) but noone checks up on it, nor do they expect you to stick to those initial plans. Oh and we get a homeschool allowance twice a year.
