A multitude of technical and licensing issues across the board, unfortunately the days of say a PS2 or PS3 playing virtually 100% of any and all PS1 games and the Wii doing the same for GameCube games are in the past.

Oh I bet it's extra impressive on PC, one of these days I'll have a dedicated PC for gaming (or at least the Steamdeck).

Xbox literally calls it the Backwards Compatibility Program, that's generally what I'm referring to, which includes backwards compatibility of OG Xbox games through Xbox 360 games across Xbox One and Series X/S consoles. Forwards Compatibility generally refers to hardware compatibility such as how an Xbox Series X controller works on the Series X as well as any Xbox One consoles and vice versa. You'll virtually never see anyone refer to Xbox 360 games being compatible on Xbox One consoles and above as "forward compatible." The Wikipedia definition: "Forward compatibility or upward compatibility is a design characteristic that allows a system to accept input intended for a later version of itself." In conclusion, for a game to be considered forward compatible it would have needed to have been intentionally designed with future hardware compatibility built into it from the start going forward, rather than the newer hardware having to adjust to go backwards.

@@RetroMediaRoom Yes the newer Xbox systems are called backwards compatible to the games. When they are describing "backwards" compatibility, they are talking about the system to the game. A backwards compatible game would be a New Xbox Series X/S game that you can play on a 360. Think of it on a timeline. The SYSTEM can play the games behind it (Backward). The GAME can be played on the systems in front of it (Forward). Don't worry, everyone wrongly calls the games "Backward Compatible". So much so that it's become an accepted term.

Music/movie/likeness/ copyrights and licensing. Most of the companies no longer exist, it’s basically impossible to renew a license for a game over 20 years old. Or the company that retain the license is not interested in renewing

Unfortunately licensing and technical issues are real, mostly licensing.

Yeah I haven't tested that, if it happens to run well on 360 then that's another way to go. The reason I don't put much emphasis on the 360 running OG Xbox games is because it was always hit or miss, I'll probably end up doing a video showing what games to play and to avoid on the 360 depending on performance and bugs.

From what I looked up (not tested) it was removed from backwards compatibility due to certain missions being unplayable 🤷🏼‍♂️

Maybe there is, but all I'm ever referring to officially and natively playing on hardware, the world of emulation and modding are hardly ever what my channel touch on.

Yeah that's unfortunate. The reason I don't always bring up backwards compatibility on the 360 is because it was spotty half the time, it's there and better than nothing, but not as good as it should have been. Hulk Ultimate Destruction for example actually runs worse on 360 than OG Xbox other than a cleaner image, it depends.

@@RetroMediaRoom well just to warn you there are some original Xbox games that can break your Xbox 360 to why their not playable on the Xbox one or series X such as marvel Vs capcom 2 I remember playing it on my Xbox 360 it broke my console that was when Xbox 360 didn’t have to many games back then I have the digital marvel Vs capcom 2 that gives achievements that game broke my PS3 also so if your paying scalpers on ebay money for that game your buying a bomb that will just break your consoles my PS2 even stopped reading some PS2 games and all PS1 games cause if that game it’s just to powerful I will never play that marvel Vs capcom 2 ever again I’ve been doing just fine by not playing it

Thankfully I've never needed to play either of those ports, and now we've got the new MVC collection coming out on PS4 and Switch.

@@RetroMediaRoom yeah capcom announced this collection after they already released it for arcade 1 up I bought the arcade 1 up that never broke playing marvel Vs capcom 2 and what I found out is the arcade 1 up has the original arcade rom that Xbox Dreamcast PS2 never had cause mame 32 never had marvel Vs capcom 2 so I wasn’t able to play it on my PC that has all the arcade roms I always knew X-men Vs street fighter-Marvel Vs capcom weren’t the arcade rom thanks to mame 32 that mame 32 was fun to have when consoles sucked back in the days
