I have struggled with perceiving how far cars are from behind especially when changing lanes on dual carriage ways, leading to undue hesitation during my recent test (which I failed) Thanks for this great tip

Hello Chris, when I had my driving lessons about 40 years ago there was no side mirror available for me to look when I turned into a side road (where my instructor 's side was). I remember that I had to watch the centre mirror but have forgotten if I checked the blind spot where my instructor was sitting.

Could have slowed down stop if needed and when the bus pulls away get going safer that way then trying to overtake a bus when it’s about to pull away

This is NOT how the SAE recommends us to adjust our mirrors. As long as you have good visibility in your rear view mirror, you DO NOT need to have your wing mirrors so angled inwards. You can angle them outwards more to cover your blindspots.

Yes but you turn left onto a roundabout. I should simply say "from the roundabout take the fifth exit".
@jasonh9518
@jasonh9518 24 күн бұрын
I guess the pupil could have just turned right at that point, turned around in the car park and rejoined the road. Prob safer than trying to re join the left lane? Crazy really as in reality I'd prob just speed up past the bus, or indicate back left and tuck in behind it.

Yes you don’t need to signal when over taking a bus because everyone knows that all the cars go around buses anyway

Indicator or not, that bus driver was going to go.

That's a bus driver issue there. He should know he's blocking the only lane and someone is going to overtake. Or should presume so.

He presumed someone indicating right, in a right turn lane, was going right. Not a giant leap in logic
@Neruqi

@@SauceThatAwesome are you really that dense? The bus is at a bus stop, the learner has a right indicator and enters the right hand turn lane. The bus driver presumes what anyone in his position would presume. The driver waited and didn’t just pull out, they checked first.

They are both wrong indicate right to overtake then once overtook indicate left but bus driver also should wait to make sure you see a car in the mirror you presume they are going to be an a-hole and speed past.

You do not need to see the side of the car you need to see traffic and importantly children playing around a car and the best view of both of those is to set the mirrors so you only just can't see the side of the car.
@DriverTrainingLtd
@DriverTrainingLtd 27 күн бұрын
If you can't see the side of the car then how do you judge how close the vehicles at the side of you are? Looking in the side mirrors makes vehicles look further away than they actually are, so if you don't have a reference point (the edge of the car) there is no way you can safely judge the gap - If you can see children playing in your mirror and i presume you mean when reversing - as going forward is of no worry, as they are behind you - then again how can you tell whether you are close to them or not?

One of the common reasons for failing the driving test is travelling to close to the car in front - One of the major reasons for car accidents is being to close to the car in front and not being able to stop quick enough
