I agree. I dig Lakeway so much because of the visual vibe that reminds me a bit of south OC CA in the late 90s (Terracotta roofs, lots of rolling hills and new construction, the upscale/waterlife vibe) and there are places adjacent that allow you some variety with access to all the pluses of Lakeway life. And many of the downsides of living in today's noisy, overcrowded Austin aren't an issue in Lakeway (thank goodness) while the pluses are a short distance away. I often think of moving there and living a fun, quiet, happy lifestyle.

Putting Yeti down as a something that is not indigenous to Austin is wrong. Yeti is a Texas company and its first flagship store was opened in Austin in 2017. Their products may be sold nationally but they are a Texas brand and an Austin brand. I would put them in the same category as Whole Foods because Whole Foods is also an Austin brand that went national.
@MovingATX
@MovingATX 2 күн бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. The message was more so unique shops that are hard to find in other locations, which is no longer the case for Yeti or Whole Foods. Proud to be the birthplace of both, but Austin has many national brands situated on Congress Ave these days, which is a change from the "local-to-Austin" flair that was once there.

I tend to stay away from cities and towns that like to Tax their citizens with police methods. If the city or town has too many police officers that tells me it’s either crime ridden or they just like to issue tons of citations. Lakeway not for me. Well, I’ve lived at the Austin area for 53 years now. I’m always up and down i35 every day , and I’ve always looked at South Austin to be from the Holiday Inn right before you cross the lake. On down to Onion creek. I Look at downtown Austin to start when you cross the lake from South Austin and you go all the way through where all the bridges cross each other and then all of a sudden you pop out. That’s where I figure that downtown Austin ends, and North Austin begins.

78745 is one of the best zip codes for average income working class people in Austin. Nice, well kept older neighborhoods made up mostly of ranch style homes from the 1970's and 80's. About 20 to 30 mins to downtown during rush hour. For Austin, it's good bargain compared to 78704.

@MovingATX I'd say that it was nice. However, due to overcrowding and greedy landlords, it's pushed the working class out and made living by the lake entirely unaffordable. There was a sense of community that has been lost in an never ending pissing contest with neighbors that makes the keeping up with the joneses a sad reality. The cops are pretty terrible to the lower class while treating white collar federal cases with "dignity and respect." Not even to mention the fact that it seems like laketravis can't help but hire pedos. It used to be a nice place, and I guess depending on who you are and if you don't have kids, it probably still is. But is living here worth it? Absolutely not.

Don't encourage people to move here, as a native I see the housing shortage causing property owners to have a captive audience, and raise rent rates beyond affordable. All because of videos like this and media hyping up moving here the folks moving here ruin what brought them to the city. This includes trying to rezone historic districts to allow STRs rented out as airbnbs against the character of the neighborhood
@MovingATX
@MovingATX 9 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! Since it’s my career, I take a lot of pride in informing people who are interested in Austin about the good and the bad. Saying my videos hype up a move to the area or contribute to any negatives related to Austin is quite a stretch. My hometown of San Antonio has also changed over the years, as do most cities. I’m sorry that’s your experience with Austin. Austin is not in a housing shortage. In fact, we have a 13-year supply high. It’s a great time for buyers. On the topic of rental rates, let’s take inflation as a simple example. Property owners are paying significantly more for insurance, ongoing property maintenance, property taxes (historical increases), and a variety of other factors, all contributing to rental rates. In good news for renters, there is an oversupply of multi-family housing. Recent rezoning in parts of Austin was to increase density in order to allow for more homes to be built on a single lot with the goal of creating more affordability near the city core. Will it work? We will see…

Austin has horrible traffic patterns and, subsequently, horrible traffic experiences. "Live near work" is the best advice. Next, learn Lamar Blvd. This is a major 'retail artery' and runs from far north Austin to south Austin, crossing Austin's major east-west streets. Also, "North Austin" and "South Austin" require substantial drive-time to traverse. "Austin" and "North Austin" are often used interchangeably. "South Austin" only has one meaning - if someone says, "I live in Austin", there are likely living north of the river (ie, North Austin). In the past 10 years or so, "Southwest Austin" has been used to distinguish between "South Austin" from the Southwest/Oak Hill/Dripping Springs area. Zip codes are a useful 'cheat-sheet' to determine regions or neighborhoods in Austin. Living 'downtown' is a good location IF you can't live near work because all traffic patterns flow into Downtown during rush-hours (6am-10am; and 2-7pm). Downtown residences enjoy a surprisingly quiet day-light existence, with traffic, weekend and holiday 'noise' consuming evening hours. If you can't live near work, hopefully Work is near one of the major traffic arteries and you can live near that street (or highway). Near Lamar Blvd, for example; near MoPac. Near "183" - a highway. There is NO RELIEF for traffic issues. Austin has so many mis-located off- and on-ramps, always a large number of choke-points AND WORSE, they change street names 'mid-stream'... you only discover that thru experience. Or a friend to help.
@MovingATX

This is the city, Los Angeles California. A city of trees and dog poop. Many people come here to find reasons to pick up feces and then go home and make sandwiches. Some people see you act cordial then disappear into the world to play games from afar. Those people are old and gray not worth talking too. Some appear and disappear as if. Several of these people stink. Many are young and disgusting too. This is where I come in. My name is Friday I carry a badge, my partner Bill Gannon waits in the car licking the cats butt. It was a cold foggy day on Figeuora and seven. We had just gotten a call about a really smelly stinky female named Kimberly Ford Hadley Ole Copple. This female was last seen eating some poop she had networked off the boat toilet. Natalie dodd herbert tinnon Whitten had married this switch for reasons of matrimonial gain from afar. Bill and I were seated at the cafeteria table discussing the cats butts leftover from the night before. I told Bill, Look you better stop eating this crap. The toilet stinks, theres prints on the coffee cup too. If they hear about this in Stir you will be screwed. He didnt like the word at all. He was a stir-stick man from old school days. The facts Maam, thats all. I saw this filch Ford woman with shyt stains on herself. Where was this woman maam, just the facts, I brought my own fork. She invited me in and offered pie. I told Bill to wait in the car, no butts around here. As I took a bite she told me about games being played where certain people decide that your sex life is finished.
