Funny how Ford used the Escort name on a totally different car in Europe - my dad had one when I was young.
@McElroysMotorsКүн бұрын
@iana6713 What is weird about your Escort is it sold as a hatchback and a wagon (estate) and the sedan was sold as the Orion. Here, we got the hatchback and wagon at first under the Ford Escort name. Mercury tried offering a luxury version called the Lynx. The Mercury Tracer came shortly after for the 1987 model year but it was built as a rebadged Mazda. The second generation Ford Escort was built with partnership of Mazda and it too launched the Mercury Tracer but unlike before, the new Tracer was just a rebadge and not a completely different car.
@iana6713Күн бұрын
@@McElroysMotors Yeah, my dad had what I think was a base model hatchback - the 3-door version. Next door neighbour had an Orion for a few years, and a rough old Escort estate which was basically a mobile chew toy for their dogs. They ate bits of the interior!

Aside from commonly known potential transmission shifting issues, these cars are absolutely amazing to drive. Ford Taurus are know to be cheap crappy cars from back in the 80's. When they came out with the 2000 model that all changed. I had no idea until long after that these cars were built so solid. A guy I knew bought one at auction for $100 or some low price like that. The car not only drove like new, but drives like a tank. The day I went for a ride with him in that car completely change my impressions of these cars. And then I found out they made them with a second more powerful engine!
