Guys I have question is there any danger in exiting the plain from the side as the photographer did in the video because some instructors in my drop zone told me it’s dangerous you might hit the e airplane if you jumped
@ZLew02
@ZLew02 Жыл бұрын
I'm not totally sure I understand your question. Do you mean exiting from the camera step (like the guy at 2:09)? I guess there is always a danger...but in this case not really. On some airplanes it is more risky than others, especially those with low, close tails, and high exit speeds. Caravans have a really low and close tail. Some king airs do as well, and their prop blast can be brutal. Camera people traditionally have not had any problems with hitting the tail, but for a while wing suiters would. If they jump "up" and or grab a lot of air with their wingsuits (or camera wings) it can put you dangerously close to the horizontal stabilizer (tail). This is a twin otter, and the tail is high, and a long way back. I'm sure it's possible to hit it, but it would not be easy. I have a few thousand exits from this plane, on that step, and have never gotten close to it. On our old caravan, I had to keep in mind to exit back and or down, not up/back. I hope this helps, if that's not what your asking let me know.

Skydive videos without music are more realistic. Just the air whistling past your ears. The way God intended.
@ZLew02
@ZLew02 2 жыл бұрын
I agree they are more realistic, but I don't think most folks want to listen to a video full of wind hissing. Sometimes I'll edit in a few seconds of wind noise on opening, landing, or on climb out, but nobody wants to listen to 4 mins of wind hiss.

Planning on getting into the sport, is it safe? I've read that it is really safe but I still have some concerns and second guessing my decision
@ZLew02
@ZLew02 2 жыл бұрын
It all depends on how you look at it I guess. In general I'd say it's very safe. I've been doing it for more than 20 years, and have thousands of skydives. Is it as safe as sitting at home? No. Is it as safe as many other common sports... no. The fact is you are getting in a small airplane, flying at over 100mph for ~20 mins, then jumping out of that airplane, falling to earth at over 120 mph, and using strings and nylon to save your life. Even under parachute, you are still flying/falling to the ground. There are many opportunities for things to go wrong or to get hurt. I'd say it's much safer than most people think it is, but if you are looking for a sport that has no chance of getting hurt or killed, this isn't the one for you.

Just noticed after few replays, the door slid down a bit during the 16 way exit and some of the last jumpers got a bit of a rig rub😱. Good thing no pins were dislodged

@ZLew02
@ZLew02 3 жыл бұрын
Valid concern! Some skydiving aircraft are possible to hit the horizontal stabilizer of exit, if you do not exit correctly. This plane isn't one of those planes. I have never heard of a strike on an otter. Even then , he strikes I have heard of were not good for the plane or person, but not fatal.
@GoxtA

@@ZLew02 its exactly what i meant the planes horizontal stabilizer not a pilot to know what it is called but daim looks painfull upon contact at that rate of pull and push jump out of the plane and speed of them skydiver wouldnt look prity
@ZLew02
@ZLew02 3 жыл бұрын
@@GoxtA the real risk is planes with low stabilizers like carvans and king airs, and wing suits. If a wing suit jumper opens his wings too fast, they can hit the tail. Usually they are trained to leave with their wings collapsed for the first second or two to avoid this. Everyone else.. 1 second of freefall puts you 10 feet below the plane. Hard to get even close to the tail
