I am North East And the impact on people across the city and shire has been massive in terms of the impact from the reduciotn of the oil and gas. Even before the coftar. It is not only the oilys themselves that are impacted, but the families that have gone and have taken the skills and spending power impacting money paid into local business. We struggle to recruit and as it is a profession, we cannot simply recruit the oilys, (such a naive response I often hear). The people I work with are bloomin exhausted because of the related shortfalls. There are those that latch on to the people coming to Scotland report, but that was 5 years ago and it has become a lot worse and the political upheaval has brought many to question relocating here at all, (anectdotally). Yet some are ardent SNP voters and all all they see is independence and beleive nothing else matters, and if they do have any thoughts on our social systems, justice etc, and many devolved issues, they still hold fast to the idea that all the ills are because of our southern neighbours. I have said it before, but I feel and hope to be wrong, but I think some would rather see Scotland burn, so that at least they could stand on a smouldering heap and say up the English. (p.s I like the idea of independence, but not dictatorship from Brussels and certainly the main point, there are bigger things to concentrate on atm).

The question is why.

The fact this is even a debate is damning, especially as the Tories were growing in that area since at least 2015 naturally.
