The guy in California that sells "Remanufactured E90 BMW radios on eBay is a scam! I bought one $250 and while the screen was like new, the audio was greatly flawed! I disagree! No hose should determine integrity of any metallic exhaust manifold. S.Brown, NAMS-SAMS ...Read CFR.....Coad of Federal Regulations..also noted ABYC......
@SDMarineConsulting2 ай бұрын
Riser not manifold. These cantilever exhaust risers are vulnerable to stress and failure, from stiff hose, after they have been in service for some time and have an opportunity to rust. They are cast iron. Having said all that, I'm not defending the design, I don't care for it and marvel that any engine manufacturer still supplies a cast iron exhaust riser. The alternative is to throw it away and have a custom exhaust riser made, one which is 316L stainless steel or Inconel, and includes additional support. Out of curiosity, please cite the ABYC and CFR passages to which you are referring.
@SBrown-ov9lz2 ай бұрын
@@SDMarineConsulting In response.... CFR coads and ABYC do identify issues regarding manifold to riser! Albeit short, it is made clear. I stated my concern to you only as my observation in a professional evaluation. The industry of manifold and risers constructed of hi yield metals as you prescribe are not and have not, and have never been available in the commercial world market! Yes very nice but not here. CFR and ABYC have references ...it boils down to how you interpret the rules.....

No, the grease resides between the outside of the ball and the inside seacock housing, not in the water pathway.

Great video, my 1 3/8" shafts are essentially toys in comparison. Same concepts even on the smaller setups. I had a stuffing box alignment problem after the fiberglass shaft log was rebuilt. The shaft log was longer and had to be cut back to allow for more stuffing box hose flexibility for self alignment. THX.

Lol conductor is fully shielded with additional heavy corrugated wire loom. Get a grip.
@SDMarineConsulting6 ай бұрын
Chafe/vibration can wear through loom and insulation, and if the engine overheats, it can melt through both loom and insulation. I've personally seen examples of both. Regardless, it's a violation of ABYC E-11.
@terraintactic6 ай бұрын
@@SDMarineConsulting The probability of that wire being completely fine, even after 10,20,30 years, is so much greater than the possibility of vibration causing that conductor to be exposed. You, and the government bureaucrats who cook up things like ABCDEFG-who-fucking-cares, are why everything is so expensive. Forcing manufacturers/installers to meet insane standards, all to hypothetically prevent a statistically insignificant possibility. This phenomenon is happening everywhere across all industry, and it's getting ridiculous.

Kudos on packing so much information into the video and doing so in a logical incremental way. The 208v issue has bitten me before. As you call out, even if your 240v equipment is rated to work "ok" with 208, adding a 120/240v shore power transformer will cause issues for your 120v equipment since it will then get 104v where without the transformer it would get the proper 120v. One note I wanted to add for anyone who may be in this situation with a non-boosting transformer is that it is possible to install a separate relatively small and relatively inexpensive boost/buck transformer before the main transformer. That, of course, introduces additional complications versus a transformer with boost capability built in.
@SDMarineConsulting Жыл бұрын
Marc, the 208/104 issue is one that is not well understood, even in the industry, I've written and lectured about it many times but I still encounter builders installing non-boosting transformers.
