Hello, from ur experience, I wanted to ask u about bokeh comparison in sigma 85mm f1.4 lens on both apsc and full frame, which camera will result in more bokeh? I know that full frame is better in bokeh but considering the compression we get from the crop factor on apsc in the 85mm distance will that result in more bokeh than using it in full frame body?
@NicBucci29 күн бұрын
Hmm I’ve used both bodies with this camera, I would say the FF but it’s all about how close you frame your subject as well, the closer the more bokeh and further away the less, so really depends on you, the 85 is quite telephoto though as it is, so having it in the FF is always my go to :)

Watching bc I’ve had really bad AF issues w my second hand copy. Camera will find a subject when AF is activated, then lose focus confirmation but still keep general but not critical focus. Wondering if it’s defective. Thoughts? Same camera, tested in AFC and AFS w different AF zones too.
@NicBucci2 ай бұрын
No I’ve never had a problem with mine, it’s always been snappy and accurate. Maybe it might be worth either updating or replacing if it persists?
@albino73672 ай бұрын
I may need to replace it honestly. It’s been updated. I’ll update my camera too but I’ve never had issues w the A7IV and other Tamron lenses. Appreciate it 🫡

Nice, I’ve watched several great reviews (like yours) of this lens. So, when my Tamron 18-300 died (the focus motor doesn’t stop) I jumped on this 28-200. No regrets. It fills a gap between my 27mm, f1.2 Viltrox and Sony 200-600 monster lens (both great lenses too). Thank for the review. Just subbed to help a fellow KZfaqr.

Excellent review, nailing all the points. It's light and powerful. The one you pack for the day. And you don't need to worry about the whole f-stop issue most of the time. Sharpness is spot on. Price is right. Tamron for the win.

Nice video! I've always loved macro photography, and I'm thinking of doing more photography again (last time serious was like 10 years ago on a Panasonic DMC-FZ8). Lovely to see you can still get beautiful macro shots without a dedicated macro lens! At what aperature did you shoot, 2.8? Since thats the only tamron 17-70 sony lens I could find haha Liked and Subbed!
@NicBucci2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the like and sub mate! Really glad you enjoyed the video :) Most of the shots were at f2.8 yeah so it helps make it a bit more macro like. It's a great lens, I thoroughly recommend it!

I only have experience with the Tamron but I would definitely recommend it!

How is the focus speed - particularly for moving subjects? Could you shoot outdoor sports or friendly (close) wildlife with it reasonably well?
@NicBucci2 ай бұрын
I’ve found no issues in these environments, so long as there’s plenty of light around when you’re at 200mm :)

My gripes with this lens are 1. Video auto focus isn't on par with native Sony lenses (incl those without the new AF motors) and the Sigma 28-70. AF tracking works, but struggles to keep up, drifting in and out of focus when moving towards or away from the subject. The focus also seems to shift in steps and is not what I would consider smooth, regardless of AF transition speed. Better than 3rd party lenses from the a7iii era, but a noticeable step down from native glass for me. For stills, zooming too fast will cause the lens to lose focus completely even when tracking in AF-C. Probably happens in video too but I don't crash zoom much apart from adjusting focal length. 2. Active stabilisation is much worse than native lenses. I can get away with a handhold walk at 70mm with a Sony lens, but barely at 28mm on the tamron because of how much it jumps. Sigma 28-70 is even worse in this regard. 3. I wish it would zoom out to 24mm. It would ruin the form factor, but I find myself having to bring this lens + a 24mm prime to cover all my bases. Actually interested in the new Sony 24-50mm because of this 🙃 That being said, this has been my workhorse lens for a couple years now too. Great handling and rendering. The first two complaints are sadly really more of a Sony software limitation. I don't have the 1/4000s shutter limit on my a7siii.

Thanks for your thoughts! It’s always good to hear others experiences with this lens. Overall it will never beat native glass you’re right, but for what it offers it’s pretty good 😊

Since I use A7 ii and I'm trying to save to get a more modern body and good lenses, I've decided to buy this Tamron a year ago, and it was my only lens. I even used it for portraits at around 80mm in sunny clear days and there were insanely sharp I couldn't believe it! I also used it for Macro and I was stunned with the result. I do time to time night photos with a tripod and manual mode and results are good!! This is one of the ultimate lenses I can recommend to anyone who want to have a one in all lens as well as a good quality lens to have when saving for more or just not fan of switching lenses.
