Yes it would be easier if you turn off the transceiver in order to find the next transceiver,it might make it faster(depending on the person) but I would highly recommend leaving the transceiver turned on in transmit mode because there might be a 2nd Avalanche and you'll be able to go back to find the 1st person alot easier.It's pretty easy to find the 2nd transceiver while the 1st transceiver is still in transmit mode (especially if your using a BCA TRACKER 4) but the main thing anyone must do is to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, it's not going to be handed to you on a Silver Platter.And keep in mind, if you can master looking for 2transceivers then you can master looking for 3-5 transceivers.The hardest part is when your the ONLY PERSON doing the shoveling.

Wow, so this thing keeps you "a float" when the snow "liquifies" underneath you during the avalanch? Is that the basic concept?

This is pretty solid! I like the "DBEST" and "DEBEAST" acroynms. Display Electronics Battery Search Transmit. At 2:22 that is way to close together for checking that people are properly transmitting... need 3m minimum for that step regardless of Group Check functionality.

How do practice with the football and one transceiver on your own? Should BCA make an enexpensive device that can just send a signal.

Is it possible there are no A-frame ski carry straps on my E2-25? Maybe this feature was omitted? I’m hoping not but my bag seems to lack this feature. Please tell me otherwise!

The amount of research that went into creating this effective tool is impressive. I think it’s important to not only take it with you on your tour, but to carry it in a hip or chest pocket where you can refer to it without taking your pack off. My avalanche course students refer to things like the page 5 Ride Safely Checklist to remind them of what type of weather and snowpack observations should be made/shared with the group. The Avalanche Observations Reference in towards the back is also great for helping folks remember what observations are relevant given the days avalanche problem.

I think it should deploy with a mess of colored powder so you can be spotted even easier. Even if you travel a distance and sink in the snow the trail of color will still lead to where you are.

Almost everything is perfect in this pack, except the waist buckle! It is ridicilously small and not comfortable to use. Why not make wider waist belt and buckle like all the other manufacturers do? :(

I bought 3 Dozer 2H Avalanche Shovel's because I have 3 BCA backpack's, the Stash 30(blue with orange straps and zippers) the red float 32 and the E2-35 . The reason why I have 3 pack's,it depends on where I'm going to go the next day and I usually use the Stash 30 or E2-35 and each pack is in the "GO MODE", meaning I'll I have to do when leaving in the morning is grab one of them and go.I always wear my T4,each pack has a Dozer 2H shovel,Stealth 300 Avalanche Probe, Snow Saw, Snow Study Kit, First Aid Kit,2-3 liters of water (Camelback) BUT what one of my favorite things to do is challenge people (employees) especially when they get a new avalanche shovel.I'll ask them (with their mittens or gloves on) how fast can they get their shovel out and put it together and most of the time they'll get the material jammed up when pressing on those spring pins to engage the handle into the blade.While I'm watching each person trying to assemble their avy shovels, I'VE ALREADY GOT THEM BEAT BUY A COUNTRY MILE. When it's my turn, and I'm being timed,got my mittens on, unzip my pack and pull out the handle and blade and the shaft engages the blade and wala, everyone is just starting at the shovel asking,"How I got my shovel put together so fast", then I'll switch the handle around for LEFT HANDED PEOPLE,then take it apart and put it in HOE MODE.By then there's people asking if I'd sell them my shovel, and of course the answer is NO but I tell them where they can buy them.Like I said, I'll take ANYBODY ON when it comes to the "Tracker 4,Dozer 2H and Stealth 300. THE BEST OF THE BEST !!!

The last portion of what you said I agree 100% ,most people make 1 snow pit and call it good if they do make a snow pit.They usually go online and look/read the avalanche forecast and that's it,no snow pit, Totally Wrong but I don't think that it's a bad idea to make a Big snow pit if you want the full details.

By the time the rescue team gets to using the probe line, most victims are probably already dead!
@agentorange153

Good explanation! Question: how can these techniques be used with a helicopter search? Also, if there are multiple rescue teams, some of whom use transceivers and others use dogs, how can their search efforts best be coordinated?
@marlinmando
@marlinmando 6 ай бұрын
Some helicopter services -like Flight For Life Colorado use an external transceiver that dangles from the aircraft, and is used for a signal search, then coarse search. which is able to get within 10 feet of the victim, allowing crews to roughly locate victims quickly. Helicopters are also used to shuttle rescue specialists and dogs from rally points to near the scene of the slide when safe. There is debate about whether helicopter noise, rotor wash and odor from jet exhaust hinders dogs' abilities to smell and find buried victims.

That strap at the top of the pack is for diagonal ski carry, or vertical snowboard carry. It’s removable if you don’t need either of those features. You can also remove it and replace it with a ski strap to use for carrying skis.

11 years later but This comment section is pure cancer. On one hand, we've got the typical posh tourists who never skied other thing than green groomers 5 days per year, 3 of them spent at the bars, not a single carve, every turn skidded, and think they know everything, clear indication of their immense ignorance. On the other hand we've got people who don't even do that, saying that we are like children because we like to snowboard/ski. Yeah, because sports are speciffic for kids or adults, right? "Wise men speak because they have something to say. Fools speak because they have to say something" Plato.

the real make or break factor is anxiety. anxiety causes mistakes, mistakes cost time. having visual aids means you will never feel anxious or be able to practice managing your anxiety in high pressure situations. try mimic avalanche enviro, like having a friend bury transceiver at the beach and roughing up the sand so you cant tell where it was buried, then the finder ( who was blindfolded and waiting very far away) is guided to the area within 50 or so meters, has to find it within 15 min to be considered a successful recovery. You can up the anxiety by burying it in the shallow surf, knowing that if you dont find it, and find it quick, the ocean will eventually take it. 😆
