I had a stage 1 installed at purchase, so no tune needed. Had a dynotune done at 60000km because the dealer had a special on. Did it make a big difference? Not really. Did it make it smoother to accelerate and ride, and less likely to chug at the bottom. Big yes. Worth every cent.

This isn't everything I ever wanted to know about stepped headers. Its not even everything I already know. But anyways... One of the advantages is having your cake and eating too - you just have to pick a cake. So, for instance, you can build a header w/a smaller primary tube than your existing header allowing you to keep the same horsepower, while picking up some bottom end torque as well! Of course it all depends on your goals(which cake?). Every header makes its peak at a specific r.p.m. point. You'll have chosen ahead of time what that is. That still leaves a LOT unsaid. I'm not trying to write a book here. David Vizard (and he's on KZfaq now) has an excellent book on making h.p. And it covers some stuff on stepped headers.

If you’re looking at back pressure, why not the lollipop solution to equal dual exhaust coming out another words the pipes are equal if you stretch them out the same amount right to the same spec as those sides get your look still, but adding a lollipop sells them you get your back pressure by placing the correct one into it I wonder how that would work to make the two doors give you what the 2:1 give you?
@rinehartracing4419

We don't recommend "lollipos" or any kind of inserts. In theory, they may help provide back pressure but they have a negative impact on exhaust scavenging and are also prone to coming loose and falling apart.

@@rinehartracing4419how do you determine primary size & what size the step needs to be? Does it depend on engine size? How well the heads flow? What about header length. Starting at the flange, where you need the steps to start in order to make a difference & just overall length in general? Do 8-1 rotary fire on a V8, 6-1 on V6, headers make a difference with or without steps still make a difference? Or would having a normal 4-1 & 3-1 on each bank work just as good or better? I'd really like you guys to get into the technical details of it all.

@@rinehartracing4419 went to the link and I didn’t see any header only options. There were full systems and then just slip ons. I guess ya’ll can’t sell catless headers anymore due to the crack down from the EPA? Your full systems have the header and then the mufflers with cats in them. My dbx45 mufflers are catless. I was either going to de-cat my stock header or go with an aftermarket catless header but, I haven’t seen any catless headers available by themselves.

Which is better, H-pipe or a Y-pipe?
@rinehartracing4419

The Y pipe does a good job of exhaust scavenging, but it doesn’t equalize the backpressure as well as the H pipe, which is much more important on M8’s.

@rinehartracing4419
@rinehartracing4419 29 күн бұрын
We really don't recommend any sort of inserts or anything like that. In theory, they might provide some additional backpressure but in practice, they never seem to make any difference and they are prone to breaking or cracking, leading to rattling in the mufflers.

So what should we be looking for in an exhaust system besides the spiral baffle?
@rinehartracing4419

In a True Dual, you want something with equal length headers front and rear, or a system with some type of crossover or balance tube, to help with exhaust scavenging.

Thanks for the explanation! We had the motopro45 on our previous bike and now the dbx45 on this bike. Both sound great and exactly as you explained, the dbx45 are a little louder but not too loud. We ride a lot of long days and the great thing about the dbx45 is they aren't real loud until you want them to be. Yes, but no. The stock header mashes the front and rear headers together into a single pipe, but it’s not designed to function the way a collector on a 2-1 system is. We believe the stock headers are only designed that way to give a place for the catalytic converter, and performance doesn’t really enter into it. Also, routing of the stock headers makes the rear header significantly longer than the front, leading to an imbalance of backpressure. To really make power, especially torque, a collector needs to be able to provide a quick path for exhaust coming out of the motor, while also equalizing backpressure.
@porkchopspapi5757
