Why is it difficult to find an HMS #1 supplier for export purposes from the east coast of the US? It has been really hard to find a supplier willing to supply.

I did like your video, thanks for getting to the point. I know I spend more time on my material than is cost effective, but you "nailed it" when you mentioned it being therapeutic, I like sitting in my shop and breaking material down. Even my non-sorted steel is cleaner than most that arrives at my scrapyard. I sell year around regardless of price. The owner has paid me a bit better at times than what "his call in" quotes were. He made the comment to me that he hates using "old money" to pay his help and maintain equipment when times are lean. He thanked me for hauling regularly during those times. Building a good report with your scrapyard is very important also. I just enjoy the whole process and helping clean up the world a little.

Thank you! You also had the cost of the blades, and technically something for wear and tear on the saws, if you count that. I expected a bigger spread between clean and dirty, but maybe it was just wishful thinking. I used to cut the noodles when I was active in it. Thanks for all of your great videos!

THANK YOU. I just commented on another guy's video that he is only making pennies, that he is making a mess cleaning this far, that he is wasting time and opportunity for his next score. I will point out, you still want to cut off the ends. It takes 10 seconds each side with a sawzall and a block, one foot on it while you cut. Then you just smack it with a hammer to remove that tin. Now the radiator is worth $1.50 per lb (today) and you do get a small amount of copper to throw in a bin for later. This method is what is 'clean' at the yard when you sell it, not removing those ends drives the value below $1 per lb, so it is vital to at least take the time to do that part. But stop there.

Use a claw hammer and knock the ends off. Much faster and easier.

How do you view refrigeration used copper that has no solder joints. In other words clean #1 grade used copper. My scrap yard down grades refrigeration used copper to #2 regardless if it has soldered ends or not. What do you say about this!?

I only strip number 1 if it has the single strand round copper. Otherwise it is not worth the aggro. I cut off the plugs though as in the UK we can add the brass pins to our brass pots. Fuses, not worth picking up so get trashed with the plastic plus bits

Really good information which pretty much is the same here in the UK, As I drive around Somerset I see a lot of electric appliances out such as Vacuum cleaners, fridges, washing machines etc. I always used to run over and cut the lead off. I would save it up and strip it all in one go. Insulated copper is not as good as it was years ago but still worth stripping. Many years ago I came across about 500 feet of Number 1 insulated which I stripped into very long bits and rolled up. That was a good day scrapping. Nice video

The only way to sell ingots half-way reliably is to get bloody good at casting them, making them presentable, stamping, and selling them to people rather than scrapyards. They can and do sell for 5-10x melt value

Dissolve aluminium off with lye caustic soda bath very cheap it Cleans copper also but you lose aluminium it will be alu sludge .

2 quick questions,....... what's the numbers for any of those examples? 6063? 6061? does it matter? and isn't wire considered extruded? The crapyard, I mean scrapyard I go to has extruded, cast, sheet, painted, cans, rims.

As an Electrician I always have wire to scrap. I don’t bother with aluminum really, copper is so much more worth the time

I did this one time, curious as you were. That copper is so thin compared to regular hook up lines. So I agree to just turn it in as most do. Now it might be fun to know if the copper could be yanked out using winch and some sort of clever hook up, attached to the macaroni Bends, possibly pulling all the tubes out at the same time heating the aluminum maybe over burn pit I'm just stabbing here in the dark.

I've found that an oscillating tool with a good metal cutting blade is by far the very best fastest tool by far. For taring down aluminum copper radiators. I take them all the way apart. Remove all copper. Completely separating aluminum from copper. I've had such great luck with oscillating tools I've shifted my business almost completely to radiators and electronics. Make sure you wear safety glasses and use a method to catch small flying pieces of aluminum. I use a large plastic bin.
