Oh I feel everyone's pain about the officiating especially watching so many Red Wings games where the officials missed so many calls. That is why there is so much chaos cuz these players know the refs aren't calling any penalties so they do cheap shots to cheat in order to get an advantage. Reminds me of the critical Capitals game we played where Copp got a high stick that eventually broke his cheek bone. Oh they stopped the play went to the commercial and guess what no penalty after the game was back on!!! I mean I thought high sticking is an automatic penalty accidental or not PERIOD!!!! We should petition the NHL or something and complain about how horrible the officials are or something 🤣 shoot I could officiate a better game give me some skates and a stripped jersey 🤣

I get it, the refs put away the whistles for playoffs. Tale as old as the game. But when they can't make up their mind about their made-up playoff rules which means you never know what's going to get called, that's an issue.

I would argue that the same thing was going on in the last game between Boston and Toronto when there where at least two missed calls against Boston which led to Toronto being eliminated. Reffing sucks in the NHL. The comments where 'sour grapes' from Boston fans, but it is somewhat satisfying that you called attention to this but still, it does not help the Leafs.

Hell, they just missed a huge Carolina playing with too many men... ignoring slashes and only catching a few hits. I see either the most minor thing called and egregious calls missed (the Florida Punch to Boston was huge as well).

Ranger fan....refs have been absolutely embarrassing all playoffs. The trifecta of not knowing how to call penalties in the playoffs, not even getting regulations right and complete inconsistency. Both teams are chippy and it just makes it shit to watch. Have there be consistency in the calls, that's it. If it's consistently you aren't calling it, don't call it at a weird time. Either the team that gets those penalties alot learns from it and advances, or they lose. Can't do this wishy washy shit, regardless if it's mcdavid/bedard, or whoever does it. Like shit, I understand the bennet interference goal not being called on the ice, and it's odd they didn't reverse it when reviewed, but the bennet punching marchand should at least have a suspension or something after the game. They can easily see the footage in feeds and in tv broadcasts. I'd understand in the regular season, but it doesn't take many people to watch 2 games a night

Playoff refereeing is terrible. They let dangerous hits go, but insist player safety is a top priority. How many suspensions have come off plays that were not called penalties during the game? But then call a one handed slash later in game.

I think the playoffs are great Boston losing that's all that matters who cares who wins as long as Marchand don't put his snout on the cup .

I know that the intensity and physicality ramps up a notch in the playoffs, but the amount of dirty plays and _especially_ head-hunting checks and elbows is a black mark on the game and the league needs to unfcuk the referees and start calling some of that garbage before players get sent to the hospital with life-altering injuries.

This has been going on for decades for as long as I can recall. I dislike both teams so not biased. But eh, refs miss calls, make ticky tacky calls, etc. Fans always be critical about how the game is called. More so in playoffs since there is more on the line. Marchand getting "sucker punched" is the toughest call to make considering Marchand is initiating the hit, and people are pretending Bennett, as a guy about to be hit, can't defend or brace himself. Does it look bad slowed down? Absolutely. Do you need to remember how bracing for a body check works? Yep. Protect head; hands up, use the hands to deflect/soften collision/momentum. And grow up, because that usually looks like hitting back in practical situations. Shame the body and momentum angles made it go that way, but Bennett should not be penalized and it's good that he wasn't. Also a shame that Marchand got accidentally punched. Couldn't happen to a less deserving scholar of the game. That man should only ever be punched on purpose.

But some players are just straight up protected they slash someone no call, they get bumped around and opposition gets suspensions....BULLSHIT.

Older fan here who has watched the NHL since 1960, saying I like regular season hockey better than the playoffs. Reasons: Skilled teams usually win. In playoffs, the barbarians show up and the referees typically let them get away with it. I seriously wonder whether cup winner really is the best team or the team that is most like the Broad Street bullies.
