I just got into Juliet Marillier’s writing and I absolutely love it. The character building, and themes are exactly up my alley. Her slow build isn’t usually my pace but she does it with such elegance and ease that I can’t put the book down. Also girl you are literally so pretty!

Aside from the Bujold books, literally all of these are on my TBR as well, haha love this for us 🤩 I think you'd honesty like The Deep Sky, purely based on the fact that we have very similar sci-fi tastes and I loved that one. Can't wait to read The Stardust Grail!! And oooh I hope the new Signe Pike books lives up to your expectations 🤍 Some of my most anticipated releases are The Ending Fire by Saara El-Arifi, Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy, Asunder by Kerstin Hall, The Thirteenth Child by Erin A. Craig and Upscaled by Joseph John Lee (look at that last one's cover!!!).
@badgerreads10 күн бұрын
Sorcery and Small Magics almost made it onto this list! I might still give it a try depending on reviews. Asunder and The Thirteenth Child sound interesting, I hadn’t heard of those! Upscaled’s cover is beautiful!

I'm really looking forward to Words of Kings and Prophets. Like you, I enjoyed the first book but wasn't blown away by it....but I am very much anticipating that he second instalment will be more developed in terms of character growth. Also, I had no idea that Bridget Collins had a new book out! So thank you! I loved The Binding!

I'm reading, well finishing actually, a book that might appeal to you. It is cosy fantasy about a sorcerers' library librarian who runs away with many books from that library in order to save them from the fire ignited by revolutionaries. She arrives to her childhood home in a remote island where all kinds of people dwell and she starts a jam shop at her late parents' cottage, but her side business is selling spells to heal trees, merhorses, mermaids, fountains and crops. I can't reveal more, the title is "The Spellshop" and it comes out in the UK next July11th (I'm reading an ARC) I can't wait to read the next installment of Shauna Lawless' "Gael Song", please read the novellas when you can!
@badgerreads18 күн бұрын
By Sara Beth Durst? It’s one of my anticipated releases in the second half of the year! Are the Gael Song novellas good? I wasn’t sure if I was going to get to them. I was thinking if I liked book 2 I might read the novellas
@pollys619218 күн бұрын
@@badgerreads Yes, that's the one! The first novella is actually a prequel and the second goes after book 2 because it's very revealing. Both of them are, but the second could spoil you book 2

Sounds like we had the exact same experience with the First Sister series, I had similar quibbles but also loved it a lot as a whole. And ooooh that romance series is going straight onto my TBR, I have been wanting to try a more sporty romance for a while now and this sounds like the perfect gateway!! 🤩 It's been a while, but the first quarter was quite odd for me. Normally I read 80% (dark) fantasy, but now it was all cozy fantasy, romantasy and just romcoms, which I loved! Some of my favourites of the first quarter were A Strange and Stubborn Endurance by Foz Meadows, Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross, The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna, A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams, Breeze Spells & Bridegrooms by Sarah Wallace and S.O. Callahan, and Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver! 🥰

My first read of the year was Sword of Kaigen and it was a massive disappointment. Especially as I had really high hopes for it. I followed it was A Deadly Education, which was a lot of fun and a great thing to pick me up after that initial flop. My first quarter of reading was really good. It was during the second quarter that I started to hit a reading slump and I'm only just getting back into the swing of things now.

Hope the third quarter brings you lots of great reads and no more reading slump!

Pendragon Cycle by Stephen Lawhead is a Celtic take (the love triangle is a weird rumor barely mentioned to only say it is a rumor as Gwenever truly loves Arthur). And she is not a damsel in distress.

This was a really interesting deep dive. I didnt read Tamara Pierce as a child...i wish i had! I read the first Alanna book, maybe ten years ago, but never carried on. However you have really peaked my interest. Do you think i could go straight into one of the other series? Or do i need to go back and re/ read The Song of the Lioness?
@badgerreadsАй бұрын
The series build on each other and characters and events from previous books show up in later books but if the Alanna books aren’t working for you I think you could start with a different series and be able to understand the story. You may just miss a cameo or be spoiled for events of previous series. Another easy starting place is the Beka Cooper series because it’s a prequel, it stands on its own more than the others
@CaughtBetweenPagesАй бұрын
I had no idea all the Tamora Pierce books were so interconnected! They only got on my radar when I thought I’d ages out of them, but you make them sound really cool and good and worth getting into even though I’m a decade+ late to the game 😂

I may be a little biased because I did read them as a kid but I still think they are worth a try if they sound interesting to you!😊

Thank you for this review! The Tortall world is still my favourite fantasy world 20 years after first experiencing it. The Song of the Lioness will always be my favourite because Alanna saved me from my very lonely preteen existence. She taught me to be strong and resilient. But I love them all. ❤ Interesting that after your reread, you put the Tricker duology so low, but I see your reasoning. It was my second favourite after Alanna's but I wonder if I'd still feel the same. Rereading all the series will be my new summer project. :)

Love a good pirate book set on the sea with mermaids and sirens, however I agree with you it wasn't fully fleshed out. The last half felt rushed and I was left confused regarding the stolen hearts kept in the sea. Aside from the evil queen forcing sirens to take hearts, why were the hearts kept under the sand and not eaten?, how do the sirens harness lifespan from the hearts. And after our main character changes and wants to be a good queen what does she do with her previous hearts?, does she even feel remorseful for all the princes she killed. There was too much unresolved.

I'm watching some of the videos in my watch later playlist. I have also been thinking I need to decide which series I am continuing and which to quit. I just started the Vorkosigan saga and have put that book on pause a couple months. I want to try and finish that first book this month and decide if I want to continue. I recently bought The Jasmine Throne and hoping I enjoy it. I also have read several volumes in Witch Hat Atelier and need to probably make a choice soon or I'll forget everything.

I’m so glad I found your channel. I’ve been a fan of Juliet Marillier for years but I just finished the Blackthorn and Grim series and it’s taken over my entire life!! Haha I can’t stop thinking about it! I had already started to think about their enneagram before seeing this video. I agree that Blackthorn is definitely an 8. I was initially thinking Grim might be a 9 because he mostly keeps the peace but he also has a lot of anger. You made good points for 6 though too. I had thought 4 for Oran before seeing your video too. Great video!
