Someone suggested music stands for tapestry loom weaving. I’m an orchestra director & music teacher. I’ve used music stands for this. It’s not my first choice as I have a wood desk that’s the perfect height and an adjustable desk chair. If you like to tilt your loom backwards a bit, a music stand could work. If you like it perfectly upright, you might find that you have to tilt it when you leave it and use silicone bands to keep your loom from tipping forwards. Check the lowest & highest height range for the stand trays to ensure that it reaches what you need it to be. Also, silicone bands come in large sizes & can hold your loom edges on a stand or an easel without damaging the loom or the tapestry. Amazon sells long bands in different colors that work well. I also use them in setting up a jig for 4-selvidges weaving. Your average kids’ metal folding stand will be too light so avoid those, even if you like the colors. They will tip over. You want to look for sturdy black stands that schools buy. Schools buy one of two brands: Wenger or Manhasset. A Wenger Bravo metal stand is heavy and probably stands the best chance of working as a loom stand for a Mirrix or Arras or larger loom.. It is a truly substantial music stand. It could easily hold a Mirrix Big Sister or Joni loom and maybe the Arras. Smaller looms as well. The Bravo has a storage tray under the main stand tray that can be used for storing scissors, yarn, butterflies, pens, beaters, & rolled up cartoons. The Wenger Classic stands have plastic bases & plastic trays. I used these stands with my 10-year old students and loved them but think it’s too light for a Mirrix Big Sister or Arras loom. It would be fine for other smaller wooden hand looms. The Wenger Preface & RoughHouse stands are almost as heavy as the Bravo. The RoughHouse controls the height with a squeeze lever instead of a pull/push sliding post. I think they would work for the Mirrix Big Sister & Arras but haven’t tried them. The Preface is an older model so it may not be available. The Manhasset stand, one model only, will tip over as easily as the Wenger Classic so my same advice applies. It’s all metal but not as substantial as the Wenger Bravo. I don’t love the newer versions as I think they’ve become lighter & lighter and don’t stay in working condition for very long without frequent maintenance. The trays on these stands need tightening every so often. It’s not hard to do … I taught my 10 year old students how to tighten them.

I'm interested in learning tapestry weaving. How many hours is the 'weaving tapestry on little looms' course, please?
@RebeccaMezoffTapestry15 күн бұрын
The course is quite comprehensive. I don't know how many hours it would take you to do the course. On quick count it looks like there are 38 videos in the course. Some you won't need to watch, some you might watch more than once. The courses are available as long as you want and are a great reference.

I am amazed by small business owners, especially creative ones - to be able to spin all of those plates whilst remaining creatively productive is an admirable skill! Thank you for all of your hard work. I hope to one day be able to take one of your courses, but in the meantime I am very grateful for Change the Shed and your beautiful book.

Rebecca. I have a question. You mention that the Summer of Tapestry pieces tend to be about simplification. This piece about the Adobe doors appears to be a visual simplification yet the execution seems to be relatively complex with the color blending, use of crapo, etc? Is this more complex that most of the Summer of Tapestry pieces? Just curious.
@RebeccaMezoffTapestry2 ай бұрын
Hi Carol, there are no rules. This practice is mine and some of my pieces are more complicated than others. In the Summer of Tapestry class I encourage people to keep things simpler because in my experience, people tend to try to weave far beyond their abilities in small spaces and then they get frustrated. My examples are mine and are at my ability level, but other people will weave far simpler things... and a LOT of my examples in the class over the years have been dead simple. Sometimes stripes or single colors. Every weaver has to make their own way.

Wondering if I need a mirrix loom for Summer of Weaving class? I’m thinking of buying a sketchloom and adapting it for fringeless technique? Thoughts about that?
@RebeccaMezoffTapestry2 ай бұрын
Oh definitely not. A lot of people use Mirrix looms but I never require any specific loom in any class. Sketchlooms are great for Summer of Tapestry. I don't think thehy'll work for Fringeless--they're not sturdy enough and peg looms just aren't great for this technique. A pipe loom you make yourself is excellent and we teach you how to make several different kinds in that class (Fringeless). Any tapestry loom is fine for Summer of Tapestry.

Hello. I'm considering a small tapestry loom. I've looked at the Saffron, mainly because of tension control for the warp threads. This Hokett is very appealing, as well. I'm thinking that since a small tapestry won't be on the loom for very long, maybe I don't have to worry about losing tension so much. What's your opinion?
@RebeccaMezoffTapestry2 ай бұрын
Hokett looms are no longer available, but lots of people make similar ones. Lost Pond makes a sweet little sturdy loom called the Minnow that I like. Peg looms work fine with smaller pieces but I always recommend you use cotton seine twine warp. The stuff made by Bockens is great. I talk about all of this in my online classes. Intro to Tapestry weaving is a good start. rebeccamezoff.com/introduction-to-tapestry-weaving
