Great idea. Question, how much plastic was used to make this project and what if it gets loose from the piers! Will it end up on the bottom of the ocean. Who is responsible for them? Just wondering!!!

Good to see the BSA is catching up with the AOL program changes. They should have done it years ago. I started doing the Boy Scout methods with my boys when they started Webelos in 4th grade and had great success. We graduated 12 into Boy Scouts and one crossed the bridge to the road of life (did not continue in scouts). We did patrol method - patrol leaders (new one elected each month so they all got a taste of it), patrol flag and yell, patrol patch on their uniforms, patrols in formation at start and end of meetings, patrols camped as patrols, patrols planned and cooked their meals for the campouts, (we camped about every two months). At every meeting they recited scout oath and law, had a chaplain aide, we did denners, etc. I pushed them beyond the Webelos/AOL requirements and they loved it and they grew - they were big boys! They performed. They could tie knots and lash, build fires and run a dutch oven. We stuck out at the cub scout gatherings and folks noticed how mature they were. Absolutely no bellyaching about it from the boys or the parents. I had several reliable parents that helped facilitate their work and it worked well.

Have they fixed the bugs in the Hazardous Weather Training? We had numerous people try to take it and it locked up at about 98% and wouldn't complete it.

Is there a roadmap to follow for those Cub Scouts (Arrow of Light) and Scouts? Is confusing when Cub Scouts have ranks and everything really structured. Is there a place where a Lone Scout can find the roadmap to follow to be an Eagle Scout? Thanks

The comments below are very familiar to when UK Scouting changed to include girls back in the 1990's. It is now very normal to have mixed troops. I was a scout leader back then and had my reservations but looking back now I do wonder what all the fuss was about, it's just normal. It is also normal that people don't like change but change sometimes has to happen. Scouting is a force for good and in time it will be looked back on as welcome and a progressive move. By the way, the girls movement (The Guides) are still today just as successful.

22:57 wow, you totally did not understand the question being asked here. Instead you heard the word engaging and went off on a totally different tangent. The question was how to keep AOL scouts connected to the rest of the pack, not how to entertain the AOL scouts.

This a opportunity lost, should have broadcast Roger Krone's discussion instead. History of the organization is important and a story that should be told, like BP's sister was key to starting a youth program for girls, the cooperation with Campfire Girls (started be BSA's founders wives) since 1910s, women leaders have been around since 1930's, Coed Explorers and Coed camp staff being a thing for over 50 years, and Scouting/USA was the branding in the late 1970s, etc, etc. Whoever is running the PR on this rollout, isn't doing a outstanding job. Again, opportunity lost.

It’s odd that she seems to say they discouraged parents from attending even more than they discouraged the scoutmaster. The checks and balances part of the board would seem to be more difficult around a scoutmaster attending.

If the Bobcat Adventure is the first required and one of the requirements is "choose a Patrol name and elect a patrol leader", how will this work if you have new AOL scouts coming after the Den has already completed this adventure? I know she had mentioned that most of the time it's scouts that have been in the program awhile, but we do get new AOL scout through the school year. I think this needs to be modified from elect a patrol leader or learn how a patrol leader is selected. If election has not taken place then elect a patrol leader.

This is rebranding with a logo change. Uniforms currently have the "BSA" abbreviation and above the pocket many people in the community do not recognize what that is. I look forward to new uniforms displaying the "Scouting America" brand rather than an abbreviation. What information sources are representing this rebranding as a problem? Can someone help me understand what dire outcome can result from an updated logo? Most organizations a update their logo much more frequently than this one. Many major companies have adjusted their branding in recent years. Please remember to follow the Scout Oath and Scout Law in all communications.

I’m sorry she had a bad Girl Scout leader. And it’s wonderful she had such an amazing BSA leader. I know local Girl Scout groups that have hiked Fourteeners while my daughter’s BSA troop is afraid to backpack. I am disappointed to see her make light of the Girl Scout program that allows both the crafty stuff she mentioned but does include lots of outdoor challenges if the troop chooses to do that. The BSA (Scouting America) will say we aren’t in competition but then put speakers like this on the stage at National Meetings and KZfaq.

Wasn't part of the reason the Boy Scouts of America were stood up was to counter other "scouting" groups in nations like the USSR? To build a strong, self-sufficient, skilled cadre of young American boys of physical, mental & moral character? Hey WOKE AmeriKa: Boys need "space" also. They need to be around good men in order to become good men. Girls need space. They need to be around good women in order to become good young women. Why is it that love for America & believing in God is bad in WOKE USA?

Scouting USA was a better sounding name...... Scouting/USA was a "communicative name" chosen by the Boy Scouts of America in 1976 in an effort to rebrand itself.[1][2] The Scouting/USA symbol was unveiled at its biennial National Council meeting.[3] The organization retained the name Boy Scouts of America as its legal name, but planned to use the new name on literature, billboards, insignia, business cards and stationery and for most other promotional material.[1] They quietly abandoned this effort by 1980 and the printing of the ninth edition of the Boy Scout Handbook.[4]
