Such magnificent paintings. He would be far more famous had he framed a blank canvas and called it perhaps the Human Condition. Would have walked away with the Turner Prize and be regarded a genius by the Tate Modern and its ilk for sure.

I adore his work, but one thing I realized by accident. I have a print of two of his paintings, but due to the context they are close to candle light.. and THAT brings their effect out SO MUCH MORE. which makes sense, given that he was not necessarily working in electrical light, nor would his pieces originally be displayed by that form of light... It is so very lovely, and more "stark" if you will? it is a very distinct effect

Gallery directors consider themselves slightly above society with a history of manipulating artists and the context of art, artists have progressed from Alistair Hudson version of art - using history to maintain a form of social stagnation and reinventing things we already understand. The United Kingdom has a history of pseudo academic devising methods of social inclusion by redirecting monies from the fabric of society, these new constructs / art buildings that house nonsense are a social fraud that only exist to give academics a purpose.

They're pretty good painters though. And to say that cave paintings are a response to the experience of being in the world is so broad it kind of has to be true. Funny that someone would find that problematic.

I have (48) of his pieces throughout my home, grouped mostly according to color scheme. Sixteen children and (10) died? What? And what of Agnes Leefe? The unspoken implication here is that she was more than his model...his mistress?

"directly connecting the manifest outcome of activity to some kind of inner model", "as a model and touchstone the feeling when I draw",.....why do people feel they have to use cliche to describe simply the act of painting
@BeyondSideshow

are you a painter?
@patoises
@patoises 7 жыл бұрын
no but my partner is, painting is the hardest thing in the world, i get it. If you really listen, many words were spoken, but ultimately they are saying the same thing, in many ways of saying, that they are "painting", the size of the paintings etc. There's nothing ABOUT the paintings themselves. The only informative part is at the end when they talk about when a painting is complete, but even that is a lot of waffling. My point is sadly nowadays you need to talk like them for galleries, buyers and media to think you might perhaps is a serious painter (although I am not questioning whether the artists in the videos are "serious" painters or not)
@BeyondSideshow
@BeyondSideshow 7 жыл бұрын
patoises hm. i guess. there's an interviewer involved, though, asking certain kinds of questions. it would be interesting to know if your partner feels the same way. i've come across a similar critique before, when a painter (daniel richter?) was describing the experience of painting instead of explaining the work... to me, that's always interesting. but then i paint quite a bit.
@patoises
@patoises 7 жыл бұрын
I am just questioning if I have learnt anything from this video. I just checked out Daniel Richter video (thanks) - interesting paintings. I think he was being asked the same questions about the act of painting and he used "juggling" as a metaphor. Is saying "juggling 5 balls", as he did, any less interesting than saying "directly connecting the manifest outcome of activity to some kind of inner model"?
@BeyondSideshow
@BeyondSideshow 7 жыл бұрын
patoises Yes, I get it. The interviewer has apparently asked them about their process... Which is inevitably a very subjective thing and often difficult to describe.

my favorite by him are his dusk scenes with the hazy ambers and browns and yellows and reds. I do like his hard moonlight scenes but the late afternoon scenes are what make him for me probably (i think at this point) my favorite painter.
