Beyond his indelible contribution to creating the late-night talk show genre, Steve Allen deserves greater recognition for pioneering the "man-on-the-street" interviews that later personalities like Letterman, Conan, and Kimmel made into core bits of their respective shows!

When they pan to the audience all the men are in ties and jackets … the ladies in dresses. What a different time it was!

Thanks for these classic Stan Freiburg commercials . He had a nack for adding comedy to an ordinary product and get our attention and hopefully more sales for the product in the ad.

One of the great vaudevillians along with George Burns and Milton Berle. He doesn't tell it here, so here's my favourite Youngman joke: A guy walks up to me and says "Give me two thousand dollars for a cup of coffee". I said, "Coffee's a dime." The guy says, "Ya, but I want to drink it in Brazil."

Ain't *no way* James T. Aubrey was going to schedule this on CBS as a weekly series. As the network's most ruthless president, he didn't care for Jay Ward or his various series. He preferred to make his own deals for fatuous, vapid sitcoms (including two he scheduled that were produced by his old pal, Keefe Brasselle, in the 1964-'65 season) and "well worn" action-adventure series and dramas. He wasn't known as "The Smiling Cobra" for nothing.

This was intended theatrics. It is the Goldie Hawn routine only about a decade later than "Laugh In". The real surprise was Johnny struggling with it. She was tossing softballs, and you would think that Rickles or Carson would be knocking them out of the park.

This was Jaywalking before Jay Leno’s version of it.
The audio from this version, minus the sponsor tag, was apparently inadvertently included in one episode that I saw in the syndication package. I wondered why the guy was yelling, but I figured it was probably the remnants of an older intro that had been excised from most syndication prints.
