my motor has a smooth drift shaft and it's so annoying trying to attach an axle to it

Did you end up finding a way to attach the axle? For smooth shafts, I tend grind down a small section of the shaft to be flat in a section and then use a set screw to hold against it. The best is when it's a hex-shaped shaft so a lathe can grind down one section to be smooth cylindrically and use the hex-shaped end for attaching to the wheel, axle, etc. Other options are shaft collars, or perhaps you could try tapping the ends so they have threads.

@@boheatherbowman7636 thank you! both of those sounds like a better solution tha n what i did. i use a lot of heat sinks to hold them together and it worked because it was pretty much just a fan with no real resistance

Why not use the RealVNC Viewer MacOS package? It means you don’t downgrade the VNC security on your RPi and you’ll get a better VNC client experience to the RPi from your Mac.

Hey there, So I have the same setup right now and am having the same problem with the direction only going in reverse. I looked at the DEBUGGING section in your code everything is powered on and I currently already have a pin connected to ENA. Any tips to fix this? It would be much appreciated
@boheatherbowman7636
@boheatherbowman7636 4 ай бұрын
The ENA should be connected to an Arduino pin set to HIGH (+5V) in order for the motor to switch directions using the DIR pin. Did you make sure that it's set to HIGH? If that still doesn't work, change the signal sent from HIGH to LOW to the ENA from Arduino pin 7. (In the code where it says digitalWrite(7,HIGH); you could also try digitalWrite(7,LOW); to see if that fixes it). Make sure to try both when debugging, as I recall one or the other fixed it. Your motor is running but only in one direction, is that right? Or is it moving forward/backward instead of backward/forward? If your wiring is right, when you set the DIR pin to HIGH it will go in one direction, and when you set the DIR pin to LOW it will go in the opposite direction. If you don't have the DM332T stepper driver and instead have a different similar variety of driver, you may need to wire it differently (use Google and wiring instruction manuals for the product to figure that out).

@@muhammeteymensunduvac6213 Are you using DM332T stepper driver, or are you using a different model of stepper driver (e.g. DM542T, DM556, etc.?) Did you check wiring connection to ENA, and did you try changing the signal sent from HIGH to LOW to the ENA from Arduino pin 7? The DM332T instruction manual is confusing regarding ENA; for Arduino, the ENA should be connected to an Arduino pin set to HIGH (+5V) in order for the motor to switch directions using the DIR pin. Make sure you try modifying the code to say "digitalWrite(7,HIGH); " run the code, and try again with "digitalWrite(7,LOW); ", re-running the code each time, that may solve your issue to debug the code. Alternatively, try plugging pin 7 to ENA, and also try again with pin 7 not plugged into ENA. The directionality issue likely has nothing to do with your motor or driver, it probably has to do with either your code or your wiring. Here's a site for wiring DM542T motor driver, if that's the one you're using: vslot-poland.com/how-to-connet-arduino-to-nema My code instructs how to wire DM332T motor driver. If you still have issues, feel free to post again here for help.

Very helpful. It's hard to find useful video on these niche topics. I was trying to create a elliptical wheel to vibrate a object resting on it by just connecting a wheel off-center to a stepper motor

OnShape. It's like SolidWorks except you can use it online without needing software. There's a paid and a free version available currently

It's called OnShape. It works just like SolidWorks except it is in the cloud so you don't need to download software to use it and can use it on Mac, Windows, etc. Onshape's co-founders were two former SolidWorks CEOs, Jon Hirschtick and John McEleney. My favorite thing about OnShape is that it doesn't throw errors at you all the time, and the way it does assemblies and version control is great.
