not to be a hater but I'm glad there was no mention of bands like Lush, Chapterhouse, Swervedriver, and the Verve. I often see records by these bands touted as some of the best shoegaze albums of all time, but every album I've tried (and oh have I tried) to enjoy by them has been completely obliterated by the passage of time. Modern records just sound SO much better. The writing and production these days blow those old records out of the water. They sound so boring and uninspired compared to Candy Claws, DIIV's album Deceiver, Nothing, hell even Deafheaven.

What always amazed me was how Barre auditioned for Tull when they were still considered a blues/jazz band but when Ian started writing these incredibly complex music pieces, Martin had no problem adjusting. If you are a basic blues guitarist could you just jump into Tull and fit in with what they became? I couldn't!

They have probably had more beautiful women than anyone who will ever bitch about them. They won in the end. And most ppl (including myself) who hated them now wonder why the fuck we cared so much 😂

@@MD-uu5nt I personally don’t care less about Busted. However, they don’t seem to understand why they’re not respected by their peers. Well because they didn’t graft like other bands, playing gigs to a few people and a dog. They were put together like a boy band, so took the easy route. It’s a bit like Robbie Williams, he wants to be taken seriously as an artist, but it’s difficult to shake off that pop teeny stuff
@sapphirelatina18 күн бұрын
@@dave-jk6en busted weren't put together by anyone, matt and james put an ad in the NME magazine and found charlie. charlie plays drums too. and they were marketed all wrong at the time because in the UK there were no pop rock bands, only alternative etc. So the label marketed them as a pop band cos thats all they knew at the time and that was the landscape, for anyone who needs a correction on this.

Can Fennesz enter the discussion when we're talking about Shoegaze? With tracks like Saffron Revolution, Circassian, The Color of Three, Chateau Rouge, etc., I feel like it should. Does shoegaze require singing? If not, I'd put Fennesz in the shoegaze category before ever putting Deftones in

Somewhere in the end of all this hate There's a light ahead that shines into this grave That's in the end of all this pain In the night ahead, there's a light upon this house on a hill Living, living still, their intention is to kill and they will, they will But the children are doing fine, I think about them all the time Until they drink the wine and they will, they will, they will Somewhere in the end we're all insane To think that light ahead will save us from this grave That's in the end of all this pain In the night ahead, there's a light upon this house on a hill Living, living still, their intention is to kill and they will, they will But the children are doing fine, I think about them all the time Until they drink the wine and they will, they will, they will I am not afraid, I won't burn out in this place My intention is to fade and I will, I will In this house on a hill The dead are living still, their intention is to kill and they will, they will Keep your children safe inside, out of pocket, out of mind Until they drink the wine and they will, they will, they will

It seems like there’s a tendency to talk about genre in this reified way these days, as though there were an Official Academy of Shoegaze. Really it seems to break down to one artist or scene being so innovative that anyone who is inspired by them seems to need a new label. Maybe the key is to be inspired by their spirit of experimentation rather than taking our tendency to speak of music in “genres” at face value? All that said, MBV deserves every bit of worship they get. Cool interview. ⚡️
