That was incredible, never heard someone play that ending so crazy good. Sad that people will hear that one note despite the flawless performance though.

An absolute disgrace. The astounding thing, if you care to waste your time reading all the comments on this page, is that his outlandishly imbecilic facial and body 'expressions' are met with approval and admiration by 90% of his viewers. Never mind that the "show" he's putting on consists of contrived, cheap, manipulative gestures that would've horrified Liberace. Lang knows (boy, does he EVER know!) how to charm and 'romance' his audiences, and he's ready and willing to do ANYthing - - whtatever it takes - - to win them over. (Not so hard to do, by the way). As I said, an absolute disgrace.

This sonata played by Kempf has been with me for 60 years. His tempo for the second movement obeys Beethoven: Nicht zu geschwind und sehr singbar vorztragen.

This is a tasteless exhibition of emotions which is totally contrary to what we know about Chopin‘s own play, characterized by simplicity and aristocratic restraint and self-control. Chopin hated sentimentality. He would have been shocked by such ridiculous behaviour and often made fun of it as he was an excellent actor and liked to imitate the eccentricities of his colleagues. If Lang Lang played this etude at the Warsaw Chopin competition nobody would take him seriously.

Is there a recording of this performance anywhere? I can't even stand to listen to other renditions because this one set the standard for me.

Lang Lang realmente me hace llorar...esa entrega al ejecutar a todos los grandes músicos, con esa sencillez que le caracteriza, me dice qué es un alma grande...me hace muy Félix el escucharlo. Besitos.

Here, i may forgive his "absurd bodily expressions." That is because of the beauty conveyed throughout the entire performance. IMO, it's as almost as good as Barenboim's fantastic recording. Listen without watching the video, and with well-trained ears, you may realize that this is delicate, beautiful, clean, respectful, and even humble Mozart.

Lang Lang does have a flair for showmanship. He nevertheless, in my opinion, overkilled this piece. His performance is whimsical with excessive use of the rubato and dynamic contrast which made the masterpiece sound a bit outlandish. [偷笑]

I never thought of using the left hand like that, you hear a little trill when you go all the way up from d to e to d again. I thought of it more as a straight line going up and down, with the notes being played by the left hand, but I love interpreting that little part like that 😍😍

I've compared Lang with Richter in playing this piece. He's not that skilled as Richter, of course. Interestingly, both pianists were rather unorthodox in rendering this piece. Really ambitious.

I truly believe this is how Beethoven wanted this piece to be played. So many people rush through this piece but he exudes emotional depth. This is my favourite 3d movement.

If you want playing perfection listen to a robot play this music. The greatest artists not only play the notes written by the composer but interpret and then transmit the emotional content of the piece to the audience. Horowitz was a master technician and interpreter of the classical repertoire.
