Ive got both of these bikes, as a life long dirtrider, the 890R is no dirtbike. It out weighs me by 300 lbs. The 690 most assuredly is a dirtbike.

Great video, I had a 690 and a couple of years ago and changed it for the 890. Each bike wins in different areas but for me the 890 has it. But then I gave a Beta Xtrainer for the more serious trails. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Thanks for the good and interesting comparison of these two bikes. Also the eastern TET route looks very nice. Actually I have been looking for motorcycle trip with my son for this summer and wanted to ask if you know the overall condition of these trails after mid may or early september? We would prefer the more dry trails and I’m bit concerned if the trails are still soft after the winter in may. I know that in autum side it might get more rainy.
@HennExplores3 ай бұрын
Understood, I think by mid-May snow has melted in early April and roads / tracks are dry, it still can be just be rainy few days and impact through this, but you cant really plan for this (and this makes it adventure :) )

Tack för detta! Har funderat på TET Estonia ett tag nu. Min motorcykel är en KTM 690.

You're welcome, I hope this very short description of three different routes of Estonian TET helps to plan (at 10:05 in the video), but if you are coming from Scandinavia and want to do just Estonian TET I'd suggest: * plan ~10 days for this * plan to do eastern route + western route and rather skip central route - this way you get all the nice technical sections on the eastern route + islands from the western route * plenty of free camping grounds (they are mostly also on the TET map) and also B&B's (booking.com or airbnb) * end of may until mis september is probably best time (as in Scandinavia :) ) <-- saying this as I see many foreginers coming to "estonian tet" but actually just passing through central route directly to Latvia, and I think they miss out :)

Great riding, but you 'compare' the bikes???? Then better put a better rear tyre on the 890 then first, a Motoz Tractionator Desert a good one, and then still you're comparing pears with apples! A lighter bike will be better in technical stuff, and a heavier bike will be more comfortable on faster bits.... you cannot 'compare' this.
@HennExplores3 ай бұрын
Yep, for every comparision we need to agree what we are comparing - for me this comparision was mostly: can I ride also bigger 890 on Estonian TET and where it feels better and where I'd prefer 690

Does the windscreen on the 690 make a difference? Looking at it for my own bike.
@HennExplores3 ай бұрын
It made signifficant difference on speeds above 80 km/h, w/o windscreen I had a lot of wind in the chest and had really to hold to handlebar, with the windscreen the wind is nicely up above chest (I speak a little about the windscreen and the product code in the episode where I changed headlight for my ktm690 if you are interested)

i see, i should learn/practice how to ride over fallen trees
@HennExplores3 ай бұрын
Yes and no, I would say - be prepared for the trees on the road - for me as I'm still learning how to ride - carrying a small foldable handsaw has been really helpful to just cut down those trees. It takes some time, but I can do this low risk and even when I'm alone. When you are in a group, probably fastest is to pull bikes over the trees and if you are already good at basic riding and wheelies then I think it is time to strat trying to cross trees while on the bike. But also as you can see they are often fallen in a way where it is not easy to just ride over them (too close to eachother, high from the ground etc) - so in that sense I'd say that riding over small ones is simple but be prepared for ones which you cannot ride over as well :)

I have made similar experience on my Gasgas es700 compared to my mates tenere 700 on a deep sand, narrow, windy enduro track, where he just smoked me. BUT as I can see on your clip, your tires and the gear ratio are working against you. My friend had proper mx tires mounted and me unfortunatelly the oem tkc80 and original gear ratio which didn't work. I mean the 2nd gear is good for almost 100km/h. So as soon as you mount a proper front tire you get much more confidence and speed plus lower gear ratio so you wont struggle so much. But yes, the 690 engine generally doesn't like slow speed
@HennExplores4 ай бұрын
Yep, I'll be changing tires on 690, I have already received new set of Motoz Tranctionator Adveture tires for the upcoming season and I'll try switching the front sprocket as well :)

Its very easy to change the front sproket one tooth if you find yourself in between gears a lot. Either up or down depending on your situation. The 690 makes lots of power and torque so you have a lot of flexibility.
@HennExplores4 ай бұрын
Thank you for the great suggestion - I already googled about it and I understand my 690 has 16T sproket so I think I should try 15T sproket. I found people complaining that 1st and 2nd gears got too short when they switched, but seems like a easy thing to try and might give results I'm looking for - thank you once more for the idea! :)

@dezmo7013 ай бұрын
Regarding stalling, struggling and problem with foundling the "right gear" on 690 => I had the same problem with my 701 and the answer was to change the sprockets ratio from 15/46 to 14/48 and mount Coober ECU for lower RPM boost. Now it works as it should be :)
@LimitEdit3 ай бұрын
@@dezmo701 Sprockets change helps a lot but remember its best to change both chain and sprockets at the same time. I you want more low down grund and a better running bike especially with the euro 5 models check out Pirate racing self programming eco dongle. its great the bike runs perfect and you can change the bike like running no cat or airbox mods with no further mods to the ecu its programms its self.
