Cracking video. We both learnt to sail in Wayferer's. Back in 1977 we went to Barton broad. As teenagers we cracked across the broad in a blue decked beasty that had aft lockers that always managed to catch the main sheet at some point. We have had two of our own since then and now thanks to those boats we are sitting of SW Kos waiting for the meltemi to give us a sailing window across the Aegean... Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid

Many people are put off by the perception that the wayfarer is hard to manage ashore and to be fair, a mk 1 full of crusing gear needs a car to get it up the slipway. I was able to pull my MK4 (normally with a kid or two on board) up the slipway on my own. The MK4 is truly an excellent boat.

Talking about serious Wayfarer voyaging, don't forget Frank Dye's 1963 and 1964 trips from Scotland to Iceland and Norway!

I've got a MK4 and whilst I absolutely love it it never gets used because I've also got a Miracle which for most of the time is just easier to use and does most things nearly as well.

I said exactly the same thing. I thought they were old man picnic boats, until a friend of mine bought a new Hartley, which had a full Harken kit out. My 600 was broken and he offered me to helm it. Loved it, even did a few opens and a few good results in the SailJuice series. I was up the very front of the bloody mary in it one year until I turned it over. Yes they do go over but it took 35 knot gust with the kite up whilst gybing. Great tactical racing boat.

Another difference between a MkIV Hartley and an old Woodie, is that you can easily right a Woodie after a capsize...

I always love watching "The Foxwells". Don't need the stupid faces.... Nice to see Izzie getting involved. When moving weight around, is the aim to keep the boat as near upright as possible? I'm used to seeing cruisers heeling over, sometimes to the gunwales. Why the difference? You make sailing look like so much fun. I am really cross with myself that I never got involved with sailing when I lived at Bradwell on Sea, River Blackwater, for 12 years.

Your daughter seems to be enjoying sailing these days which is nice to see. I don't know if it's just the camera angle but you seemed to have the spinnaker pole too far back quite a lot of the time resulting in the bottom of the spinnaker being too close to the jib. I'm a regular viewer and not a fan of of those silly thumbnails. Best leave that sort of thing to the chav channels IMHO.

Not for the open mouths anyway. 😂 I think your sailing videos are quite nice and i rather like them. @Elisabeth: You obviously don’t need him to tell you when to go in the tacks and gybes. You seem to have it pretty much under control. Good sailing, Izzy!

Great points. I'm a solo sailor, and my old shark 24 has no life lines. I think I might install a down haul on the jib in case I get into trouble.

Thats the way racing is in the UK with most club racing being done on a handicap basis. Not as good as fleet racing but then any sailing is better than non at all
