Oh wow! I really enjoyed this one. A double feature...the Aquarium and the Munson. Could you tell me what the large building is at 1:59 across the harbor and to the left of the Aerial Bridge? Thank you so much for showing me a part of Duluth that I had never seen...what an interesting vantage point!

Thanks, glad you liked it! That would be the Paulucci Building, it’s not much really. It has a brewery/bar/restaurant in part of it but otherwise just a standard office building, granted a 100 year old one

@@carolyndavis7476yep, 1915 so definitely older, but despite its location it’s not really part of the Canal Park district. Sort of the last holdout from the days when the area was an industrial and business park, before it changed to tourism in the 80s/90s. All things considered I’m surprised it hasn’t gotten converted beyond the one bar. Would be a heck of a location for shops or an attraction, literally right on the canal

The Oberstar looks beautiful, coming in off the lake. Even if she does look like she got into a pillow fight with a couple of bags of powdered sugar! I'm amazed at the vids that I have watched about the enthusiasm of the great ships moving in and out of this area. I live on the east coast and we see great ships from all over the world come into our ports here. 2:54 those were some cool clouds! Something interesting about this ship is that it originally did have a typical Wagenborg name. it was constructed as the Fivelborg, and not too long after the ship was launched it was renamed Beatrix, and the name Fivelborg would be given to a fleet mate of the same class.

Thanks for the video!!! I really like the scene at 1:07 with the Kentucky pushing the Beatrix!!! Mike touched on it on his video but do you know why the Wagenborg ships don’t get Lock Rash like other saltys do?
@jonathanellsworth21
@jonathanellsworth21 2 күн бұрын
Glad you enjoyed!! The maximum size ship that fits inside the locks in and out of the Lakes is 740ft x 80ft, very outdated dimensions. The length is decent for modern ships but the width is brutal, most vessels that long now days are a lot wider, both for stability and capacity purposes. Typically 100-120ft for a 700 footer. So when salties (and Canadian Lakers) are specifically built to traverse those locks, they’re constructed right up to the maximum width within inches, tight enough that for some vessels if you attached a couple of car mirrors on either side, they wouldn’t fit. Needless to say that leads to a lot of scraping, no matter how skilled your pilot is. The Wagenborg vessels are a lot slimmer by comparison, this particular vessel is 56ft wide. That gives them over 20ft of extra clearance vs other salties, a lot more room for error. What scrapes they do get are smaller and more easily fixed as well. It impacts their capacity a lot, but it allows them access to almost any port on Earth, and they look good doing it.
