Yeah, it sounds like we played a pretty basic version of euchre in Zionsville during high school. My girlfriend and I my sophomore year were undefeated. And, we never meant to be, but we were pretty ruthless together... lol.

I'm a confirmed board game hater but the board presentation and the trick taking nature of Arcs got me so damn curious I couldn't say no, and after this interview I am somehow even more hyped to get my physical copy in the mail this Sept! Thank you Cole for such great answers and thank you Flyover Culture for asking fun questions.

I was around for the wave of not only zines but the "mail art" that was such a vital and transformative medium, shaping taste and form for decades afterwards. It took many forms. I lived with Stu Horn, one of the noted practitioners, and it was amazing how art would just arrive every single day, and we would take the responses down to the box. It was a vibrant conversation, worth remembering and revisiting... and reviving.

I have a growing interest in Cryptid culture and after attending the incredibly fun Mothman Festival last year, it only made that grow. The Hodag fest is considerably smaller by comparison but looks like so much fun with a community that really embraces what they have. Thanks for a great video with good info that's very well presented. Definitely subbed and will look forward to seeing more from the channel.

"I have a different way of working" .. when the map in ARCS completely changed, and the gameplay is NOT the same as originally shown, don't backers get disappointed? His "best version" of it might not be what the backers wanted. I dislike his way of working, and his games should be bought only after they are done.
@EricKuha6 ай бұрын
I think the final product of Arcs is exactly what was originally described. The only thing that's different is that the map looks different. But functionally, it's basically identical to the original pitch. Have you even played it yet?

You do know that Cole is one of the most successful board game designers… right? His games are all extremely successful. His Kickstarters earn massive amounts of money because people believe in his vision as a creative. I think a thing that not everyone understands about creatives/artists of all kinds is that we don’t always know what a finished product is going to look like. Ideas evolve. Plus, KS adds a layer of “if we raise more we can do more” which allows for someone like Cole to create the best gaming experience possible. Does that mean sometimes visual designs change throughout the process? Definitely! Because they may have realized something that works BETTER and can give it to you without asking you to buy the game again 3 years from now when it needs to be redesigned or updated because it didn’t work exactly as planned. The thing about KS is that you don’t have to back a game if you don’t like a designer’s process. I also think a lot of people forget that crowdfunding comes with an element of risk. Maybe the game takes 5 years to complete instead of 2. Maybe the components need to be replaced because there was a pandemic and supply chain logistics have thrown a wrench in the game. I myself, tend to only buy crowdfunded games once they are in the fulfillment stage because that’s what works best for me.
@okkiebok4 ай бұрын
If any of their kickstarters looked like the initial version when they shipped I'd be intensely disappointed. They clearly communicate that the game is in active development and that some of it will change.

I’ve started making zines with other writers in Melbourne. I find them really empowering and freeing, since I’m traditionally a long form writer who independently publishes novels/poetry books. Zines are an extension of my self-publishing journey. Zines unite writers ☀️

Hodag was an interesting fake creature. I lived in Rhinelander in the early 70's, and it's a charming, friendly town. The citizens are some of the nicest people. Left their for college back in the 70's and stayed out of state instead of returning for work. The Oneida County Courthouse is one of the most beautiful with it's green green Tiffany glass dome.

wow! really high quality stuff and great journalism. very surprised this doesnt have more views than it does. i find it strange that people cant seem to realize that banning media only makes it more sought after and increases its fame/infamy in the market. youd think after a few thousand years of human literature people would catch on, but time is a flat circle i guess lol
