Can you put a 301 motor in a 250? The cbr300 is ugly AF.

I have seen the your video on MC Garage about new engine run in myth, but I still have doubt, those engines directly coming from factory are precisely built in machine process. Now since you have rebuilt this engine in your garage, did you let it run in for ideal for some time or did you just took it for ride like normal?

The fasteners you refer to as "bolts" are correctly called "screws". A bolt is used with a nut, and can have any of the common head types, socket, hex, torx, etc. Using the term "fastener" is usually appropriate. I worked as a mechanic many years and learned correct nomenclature only when becoming a mechanical design engineer. Do some research if you have questions!

Good to watch your CBR video. I just happened to have bought TWO 2012 CBR 250's this past month. My first one is red/silver and had set unmoved for 5 1/2 years. I got it running with cleaned fuel system and it also needed a chain and rear master cylinder. It runs beautiful and has just 6,408 miles on it. This one I paid $400. for. The bad news is the promised title may not be available anytime soon. Looking for an option on the internet I found another CBR in a red/white/and blue format in beautiful condition that has a rod knock for $500.. Later I will investigate why. Tomorrow morning the engine will come out of the red bike into my red,white, and blue Captain America CBR. I am a 75 year old retired auto mechanic whose only claim to fame is I won the National Alfa Romeo Mechanic's Championship in 1986. I really wanted to make the red/silver one into the best bike as I also own it's "Big Brother" a 2010 VFR1200f in the same color scheme. I have the perfect working environment for these builds in a large mobile home on my new property where my other 3 bikes are stored. Wish me luck! I, like you, enjoy making things because as mechanics we LOVED what we do.

Today I made great progress, taking the engine out of the red one and almost completely installing it in the red, white, and blue one in 9 hours. I have to install the front fairing pieces. The "donor" engine had just 6,408 miles on it. I did check valve clearances while it was out as it is so much easier. The red, white, and blue one just had new tires and a lithium battery. Remounting that engine is a pain doing it all alone. I sure learned where everything is and I do have a factory manual @@AriH211

A million thanks to you. My 2016 KTM Duke 390 was poorly and just suddenly became difficult to start . Then, it dropped a valve or something similar resulting in a wrecked head , piston etc. I sourced the parts mainly from India . It was setting the valve timing that freaked me but after watching your detailed video of how to set the timing on a KTM RC 390 , I got inspired. Rebuild was completed last week with the help of a talented Philippine mechanic ( first time for us both to tear down a KTM ) Thanks again for your inspirational videos.

Great video. You make it look easy. I decided I'm not going to pay places to put new tires on my bikes anymore. I bought new tires, a tire changing stand with bead breaker and a set of tire irons and stuff. Going to give it a go in a few weeks when the weather warms up here in Ohio. I will be replacing tires on a 2013 Honda CBR 250R and a 2006 BMW F650 GS. Wish me luck!!

Hey Ari, thanks for the nice video on the CBR 250R engine repair! I own one at the moment but my 250R makes a high pitch squeaking noise when it runs and was wondering if you have any idea as to what it is? I've replaced the clutch plates because the squeaking noise gets louder when I engage the clutch. So, I don't really hear it while it's idling but I hear it when I'm in gear and driving. Please let me know if you are familiar with this sound on the 250R. Thanks again!
@AriH211
@AriH211 2 жыл бұрын
Hi YoloMode. I've never experienced that sound on a CBR, but I've experienced something similar with other bikes. Based on your description, and the fact that the sound changes when you disengage the clutch, I'd guess it's a bad transmission bearing or perhaps a worn gear bushing. That's a scary prospect though, so start by inspecting all the other rotating parts that are active when you hear the noise. Wheel bearings, drivetrain, etc.
@YesYolo

@@AriH211, First of all, thank you very much for getting back to me so promptly! It's actually when I engage the clutch this sound appears, so while I'm on my throttle and apply power to the wheel this sound appears. I've uploaded a short clip of my black box just now to show it to you. It's kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNCWbMSB0L_LmX0.html

I know this is an old video but if you still respond to comments I have a 2011 CBR 250 with 190k kilometers, yes. It has never really been worked on and now the engine is tired. I am considering having a big bore done as opposed to just a rebuild, what do you think? Great video, your OCD and motorcycle skills combine nicely.
@AriH211
@AriH211 2 жыл бұрын
190,000 km?! That's four times around the planet! My goodness. I would not recommend a big bore. Stick to stock - that's what allowed your bike to function as long as it has. Sticking to stock is almost always the best option for reliability. To answer your airbox question, I removed the evap equipment and plugged all the unneeded ports with vacuum caps.

@@AriH211 Thanks Ari, Im just about to rebuild the clutch, the problem is I'm in Thailand and the mechanics for the most part here are questionable, the engine needs work for sure but its a gamble both ways. This old bike has been in places it should never have been expected to go and far outperformed itself in every way and now I want to give it a good second life.
