I got the same low angle jack plane and it's the only one I got and I was looking to get the regular lie neilsen 5 1/2 jack plane just like yours! I am also building same table from Chris Schwarz book (except I already bought Southern Yellow Pine) and I like your position of the plane stop and fess tool clamp! Looks like we'll have the same bench and tools! (I'm a beginner so it's good to see what you are doing with the same stuff! Lol) Thanks for the tips, nice work!!

Hi Richard Great video sir, very interesting. I spent an hour this morning flattening a 2" thick oak board, it was only 30" long and 10' wide but badly cupped and crowned. I used my Veritas Low Angle Jack plane and it did ok even though the grain was all over the place. I just checked and Veritas make 2 No' toothed blades, one at 25° and 38°, which one do you think would be better to order. Keep up the great videos. Cheers vRich

Richard, you're the best dressed carpenter on KZfaq! I think I probably look really scruffy when making my videos. I must do better!!! I'm in the market for a spokeshave myself and after watching Peter Sellers, I was thinking about the Stanley 151, after all, if it's good enough for the man himself, It should be good enough for me. The problem is, I do like Veritas kit and now I've seen this video, a spanner has been throuwn into the works, well and truly. Thanks for the video. Very informative.

I like the sled idea. The old way of doing this job is with a bench dog, a peg in the bench that is just shorter than the desired thickness of the stock. This can have a leather jaw, or you can put in two pegs and bridge it with a piece of scrap to create a wider stop. Then, to maintain its flatness as you plane, you “gang plane” narrow stock two (or more) at a time, aligning the grain.

Excellent! Approximating the shape, of those shims, would not be hard at all. As for myself, I would cut some of my various thicknesses, out of brass sheet, to - at least - approximate the thickness I need, and cut way down, on the use, of all those"fiddly bits'!

Can you tell me why you opted for the OF 2200? I'm in for a new router and need to choose between the OF 1400 and the 2200. They are both not cheap so I want to only buy one ;-)

They took the "non slip" idea from the Bessey KRE as well as the removable pads and added the folding handle they copied from Piher brand clamp. I don't see any new feature that this company came up with on their own. I just hope these are much cheaper that the bessey and jet clamps.
