It's fantastic when the Yankees are knocked outbof playoffs or not in it at all.

What ill always remember about that game is how each Astros pitcher that came in was throwing harder than the previous Astros pitcher that he was replacing. And the fact that the Astros used their closer Billy Wagner with an 8 run lead means that they were going for that combined-no-hitter

Why is this video titled “Astros No-Hit Yankees?” when the Yanks clearly hit in the 7th inning?
@jamesmeadowsiii11 ай бұрын
No. The Yankees do NOT get a hit in the 7th. The runner reaches on an error by the third baseman. The throw beat the runner but was off target. That is an error because the runner would have been out if the third baseman hadn't made a bad throw.

Thank you for clarifying. I just watched the whole video to get another look at Javier’s great pitching. I had missed this game last year and had heard the Astros had this no-hitter in NY. Sorry for my confusion on the play and thank you for posting. Hoping the Astros do it again this year. #GoStros⚾️

the reality of a NH crept quite slowly in this game. I believe I was listening to this game while checking out the finals game on TV. Very un-expected but probably one of the best games ever as my beloved home team blanked my most loathed team. This 2003 team was quite memorable to me despite missing the playoffs. For one reason was the formation of our 3 headed end of the bullpen monster (Lidge-Dotel-Wagner). As mentioned at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebFxqaaSz5uaZas.html @1:31:50 the more memorable game I can't forget was that 16 inning loss at Wrigley field where the performances of the relief corp was memorable. I think 3 innings for Lidge 2 for Dotel and I think 2 for wagner. The starting pitcher I think was Oswalt who went 8 scoreless. 9-11 lidge I believe, 12-13 dotel, and 14 to 15 Wagner before Ricky Stone I believe gave up a jack to Sosa in the 16th. From my memory, Wagner talked shit about the organization and owner during the final weekend of the season and got traded to the Mets. Jimmy Williams was replaced for Phil Garner. Our 3 headed monster turned to 2. I believe Dotel struggled to be the closer in 2004 so Lidge quickly picked up the mantle. That year we got Clemens and Andy Petite to team up with Roy Oswalt to now have a big 3 at the starting end. We make the NLCS the next two years.
@jamesmeadowsiii5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Wagner made the statement that "McLane just wants the team to be good enough to win games but is not willing to spend the money to make them good enough to win Championships" (or something like that). So, McLane got angry and sent him packing. As far as Jimmy Williams, he actually remained the coach for the first half of 2004 but the team was underachieving so badly at the halfway point that he got boo'ed by his own team's fan at the All-Star game in Houston that year. Afterward, McLane cut him and replaced him with Garner. The rest is history, as the Astros went on to win their first playoff series in 2004 and reach their first World Series in 2005.

Yes. In 2002 and 2003, he was pretty amazing. Was never quite as good in a closer role as he was a set-up role. I don't know why. As a closer, he never had a Save% better than 78% for a season. But in the set-up role, he was devastating. And getting 4 K's in an inning in this game was certainly memorable. My dad still talks wistfully about the days when we have Lidge-Dotel-Wagner as our 7th, 8th and 9th.
